  • An Inconvenient Truth - Your Thought?

I saw this movie and I'm going to do my part. In fact, I think that the main site at climatecrisis.net would do good to recommend this site since there is so much more valuable information on saving money (and helping the earth) than on that site, but I hope that everyone will go to see the movie no matter what your political view. Although the issue is politicized to some degree, I think that the subject matter is something that we all need to do a little bit more about. See the movie and decide for yourself and write your thoughts here.

The people here are already doing many of the recommendations and it goes to show that helping your own financial health can also help the environment at the same time.

Where can I see the movie, would I have to pay for it?

Part of being frugal is using our things wisely, being good stewards, and not being wasteful. But, I completely disagree with the agenda of the environmental movement. In my opinion, alot of it is based on pseudoscience and is overblown in order to create a "crisis" to force people into their way of living.

So do I. Not only do I abhor wastefulness, but there is proof all around us that the environment is in trouble and it is threatening our financial and physical health.

The environment is not affecting our financial health. But, poorly conceived environmental policies based on poor science DOES affect our financial health and security. Environmental laws should be based on science not feel-good-ism.

I also take environmental issues seriously. The increasing incidence of childhood diseases, allergies and asthma is enough proof that something is amiss in our air, land and water.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but will rent it asap. I hope I'm already helping, but the more ideas I get, the better.

I will be watching the movie. I think it's also important for people who think environmentalism is "overblown" to watch the movie.

My father watched and loved it and sent a recommendation to everyone he knows to watch it.

I may even pay for a matinee.

Re: An Inconvenient Truth - Your Thought?

For Gore, it's more like "A Convenient Lie".

                    C'mon people! Wake up!

Since when did this career politician suddenly become and enviromental expert!

When this guy was a card-burning, tree-hugger in the sixties, we were definitely headed for another ice-age! So what's changed in 40 somethin years? They really ought to make up their minds. Either we're going into deep freeze people - or we're going to burn up! By the way, has anyone noticied the sky is falling... RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

A bitter ex-presidential loser trying to drum up support and sympathy for maybe another go at it? Doesn't anyone look at the motives behind anything? Even if I liked the guy - it's a little too obvious what this movie is REALLY about.

Scare tactics and propaganda. That's IT!

It's an old tool used by every tyrant known from the begining.

Get people riled up about something they can hardly disagree (who doesn't care about the enviroment?!) that's how you gain power over them. Then you're able to steer the poor sheep any way you want - even over a cliff and they'll be happy to do it!

Fear is why the terrorists are so effective.
Fear is why Hitler came to power.
Fear is why Hitler committed genocide on the Jewish race and anyone else he didn't like! (the greatest irony - he wasn't even German!) And look what he got the Germans to do to their fellow neighbors!
Fear is why Stalin got away with the genocide of millions of poor Ukranians
Fear is how the Soviet Union functioned. Carl Marx wasn't showing his hand when he said 'religion is the opiate of the masses.' What he didn't tell is how fear is how he controlled the masses!

                    Trust in God.
                    ...not the fear mongers.

Re: An Inconvenient Truth - Your Thought?

Al Gore has been an expert on global climate change for many years. He wrote Earth in the Balance in 1989, the book from which Dan Quayle misquoted him in the 1992 VP debate. I first knew of him when I was a very small child and he, as a freshman senator, went on Nickelodeon's Kids Save the Planet marathon to tell kids what they could do to preserve the environment. While he is not, and does not claim to be, a scientist, I would say he is one of the more educated and well read people on this issue that we have.

Re: An Inconvenient Truth - Your Thought?

I have not seen the movie. I don't much care for propaganda on either side of an issue, to be honest, I'll do my own reading. But I read Earth in the Balance many years ago, and I've read a great deal of literature about this issue. Whether we have definitive scientific proof of the cause or not, the Earth is warming. That much is documented.

I honestly don't think Gore will run for president again, but even if he does, I'm not sure that's the point. I don't think that being aware makes me a lamb to the slaughter, but I appreciate the high minded debate, thanks.

"Global warming". Let's see, if we have a winter that is too cold, it is global warming. If we have a winter that is too warm, it is global warming. If there is too much rain or snow, it is global warming. If we have a drought and not enough rain, it is global warming. No matter what happens or where it is labeled with the buzz word of "global warming".
There are natural climate changes that occur throughout time. And, even if the earth is warming. How does not driving my car change that? There were more emissions put into the atmosphere when Mt St Helens erupted than all the cars in history.

Story3girl it's really great that you read and want to educate yourself about these things. I'm all for that! That's very important and good. But it makes a big difference *what* you read. A steady diet of only one point of view is not good. It's like eating too many carrots. Eventually your skin will turn orange! (Don't laugh - it happened to my mother-in-law!)

But this is a financial discussion board. So to bring this conversation back to a (sort of) financial related subject, take out a dollar bill or any change in your pockets and read what it says, "In God We Trust".

Funny thing to write on money isn't it? There must have been some compelling reason why it was put there. Actually, that might be an interesting topic to delve into as well!

                              Beware of Peddlers of Fear!

cschin4 is right. With all the *experts* generously doling out their free opinions everywhere and at every chance about how bad global warming is, you never hear *even one* of them question the status quo or even hint that the globe might just be experiencing one of those climatic *cycles*.
Interesting to think about. Not one questions (or is allowed to question) the theory. If they do, they are labled crackpots. Want to talk about free speech?
