    Welcome Kirby.

Yeah, I've done that before too, but I'm doing my best to turn my life around as well.

This is a good place to get started.

Count me in the 2nd group. We earn a good income and could afford to spend a lot more than we do, but are both naturally thrifty and can't stand paying more for things than we have to. We also aren't hung up with image and status and keeping up with the Joneses. We live well below our means and save upwards of 25% our our income. I just couldn't imagine doing it any other way.

I just enjoy finding good deals. I just got back from Rite Aid, buying some OTC medicine that my husband has to take every day. It was $4 off!! I just found out that I am eligible for a card that will give me 10% off of my purchases every Tuesday, so i will go and apply for the card next week.

Re: Im curious how many of you on this site....

We are financially stable BUT I started as a saver when I got my first allowance. I put 10% of my gross income away my entire working career and I never touched it for anything. My savings account was a separate account. My husband now makes $60,000 as long as he works 8 hours overtime 10 months a year. He is tired but he is the one who spends 90% of the discretionary income. I make that buffalo weep before I let go of that nickel. I have not worked for the past 6 years so I figure "my job" is to stretch every buck as far as possible. We live on yesterday's money. My husband's pay is direct deposited into one account. His paycheck varies with the amount of overtime he works. At the end of the month, we transfer a set amount of money into our "living " account for the next month- the extra overtime money builds up in the "unseen" account.

My life changed when I finally was far enough ahead to buy bulk when good prices appear. An example- when chicken legs hit 19¢ a pound, I am the chicken queen. I buy 20lbs, run home, cook them, vacuum pack them, toss them into the freezer, and run back for more. It is impossible to say you are hungry in this house without a chicken leg appearing in 5 minutes. I could give you 100 similar examples. The moral of the story is when you only have a set amount allocated for any category, it is difficult to take advantage of these specials. Freedom is being able to stockpile when you don't need something. imho lynclarke

I try and be frugal, but my husband likes to call me a cheapskate!! He teases me when I say that I have saved a few dollars that day. I am sure I got it for watching my mother be so frugal when i was a child.

DH and I are living paycheck to paycheck now but we do have an ER fund. Things are tight because I just graduated and I've not started work yet (start this week!) and DH is full-time student with a work-study. We keep a tight budget, but we don't want for anything.

Fortunately, I'm not here to try to make ends meet, but because I'm interested in living frugally, simplifying my life, and managing my finances better.

Re: Im curious how many of you on this site....

We live pay check to pay check & need to cut expenses & bargain shop to survive on one income & of course avoid paying day care costs w/ me as a sahm.

Starter houses around here run about 175,000 & that's basically what we're in. But because the houses are gaining equity so fast (20,000k a year) there's no way we could "move up" as we had planned initally & of course that was before we had kids too. So there ya have it.

& I never pay full price for anything!!!! Can't afford to, the clearence racks, rummage sales, or thrift is the only way to go for us.

I would guess we are comfortable, but not rich. But, we have saved and spent wisely in most cases. I'm always trying to learn new ways to save so that's why I like this site.

Money have always been tight .When I was a child growing up in such a large family we
Always shoped in good will.To tell you the truth there is no way we could have made it
without been thrifty and frugle as we were.
Iam always looking for ways to streach what little money I have...geting payed once a
month that is a very long time to go befor the next payday.I can't be any other way but,
                            thrifty it in my DNA.
