OK Guys, please help!! I don't know where to go. I am somewhat internet savvy (quit laughing kids) but I am not sure what will work now. My MIL is selling a farm in MI. Before she can put it on the market she needs to have a garage sale. That part is easy, I've done lots of those and am working on getting this one ready. (I live in WI it is a challenge to do this long distance but we're coping) The hard part is that I have to sell a 20 foot (or so) long saw mill. It could be donated to a non profit group but they would have to come get it. The thing hasn't been used in about 10 years and isn't completely assembled. There is a blade (huge) or two. (she wants $1500)In addition there is an old planer (not even sure it works still). That is only one of the challenges facing this garage sale. Another is a living breathing Arabian Mare that she wants $25,000 for. I am out of my league here. The simpler items include tack of various kinds (most of which I can't identify) and a sukey (sp?) I did list the horse on an Arabian site several months ago but no bites so far.

Re: Where do I go?
I would advertise the big items, like the ones mentioned in a newpaper. I would not list it as a garage sale, but as a farm sale, or estate sale, so as to find other kinds of buyers. You may also want to look into contacting a professional estate seller and just ask for a consult. They may be willing to give you some ideas as to how to proceed with such a massive sell. Basically find someone who has done what you are doing and get advise. Estate sellers or auction houses seem the most likely place to me.

Re: Where do I go?
The tools sound like a Craig's list eBay combo to me. Local pick-up only. You'll get more $ if you can get everything up and operational, but it isn't necessary. The horse is harder, but your MIL has to know others who have horses. Maybe there's a local club she can get in touch with? ( . . . and see what they say . . . )

Re: Where do I go?
On a side note...is you MIL like my grandpa. He thinks his stuff is laced with gold or something.....He wants 2-3 times what one can get for ols used things. If that is the case, good luck, you are going to have a hard time convincing her other wise. Maybe letting her talk to an auction house would help her realize she is way over valueing things in her mind. I think it's because they worked so hard for these things they feel devalued personally selling them for so little. At least that is the best explaination I can come up with.

best wishes on this one... my dad thought his stuff was worth gold and he is gone now... so, my lovely brother's and sister's gave a lot of it away to friends and family, which they treasure... dad should have just given the stuff away before he died.. declutter.......i hope when i get older i can listen to my kids.
