      Congrats!

      Paying your property tax and homeowner's insurance is just so much easier when you do it yourself. No refund check one month and then a surprise mortgage increase the next!

        Not necessarily! Because ours isn't a conventional mortgage, on top of our house payment we also have to have our taxes paid separately each year to the tune of about $5K+, plus fire insurance which used to be included on my mortgage. I will be so glad when my house is paid off.

            Yay and me too

            That's fantastic, I just paid mine off this spring but we've had so many changes so I haven't really felt it yet. We went from two incomes to one and have moved from our tiny town home back to the big house with a commute. It's temporary because we're sitting for a couple of years to avoid capital gains taxes when we sell the big house. I sure hope we still have that option when it comes time to sell.
