Yep, seen it as well. Maybe not as noticeable for the odd ride, but as someone who regularly relies on Uber as a service it's starting to bite.

Is it just me or are prices for Uber/Lyft increasing?

Already ordered a new suitcase. BTW won a $300 slot win which I’ll post in the win thread but forget my password to upload it to imgur so it’ll have to wait till I return home.Originally posted by TexasHusker View PostWell what’s a new wheel thingy gonna run ya? Any time you take a pass on Uber, you need to factor in wear and tear on your suitcase wheels - those things can get pricey.

i've dragged my suitcases to the hotel from the train station before, probably half mile distance. That stuff does serious wear and tear on the wheels. if i had a $8 uber option, i would have taken it in a heartbeat. Alternatively, I could have taken a cab, which would have ran maybe $25.
My actual cost to get to the hotel from the airport was maybe $5 for the train ride + walk
The better option probably is a direct shuttle from the airport for $25
The worst option was the $5 train ride + $25 cab ride to the front door

are there folks around that can work on those wheels? Rotate, balance, etc.Originally posted by ~bs View Posti've dragged my suitcases to the hotel from the train station before, probably half mile distance. Funny, though seriously, it would be nice if there was a reasonably priced option for having wheels replaced. Quite a few times I've been at baggage claim at the airport and seen a suitcase come out in a bin with a broken wheel hanging off. Never my suitcase, fortunately, but it sucks if you need to replace the whole bag just because of a broken wheel. Good luggage isn't cheap, though I also suppose that's less likely to happen to good luggage.Originally posted by TexasHusker View Postare there folks around that can work on those wheels? I guess I could get into the suitcase wheel business. Reminds me of a friend of ours who moved to Scotland and fell in love with an accordion repairman. They moved back to the States to chase the American dream, but found that there just enough accordions around these parts needing repair to make the dream a nightmare. So they moved back to Scotland.Originally posted by disneysteve View PostFunny, though seriously, it would be nice if there was a reasonably priced option for having wheels replaced. during our last trip into SF I just lyfted everywhere after taking the bart in from SJ. It was way easier. Cheaper too. Parking at the embarcadero is $25 a day. Then going to golden gate park and bridge? Easier to not drive and just pay. Of course I feel more comfortable now than driving since my kiddos are in booster seats and I can use the mifold for seatbelts. I didn't before mostly because the whole no carseat thing freaked me out with my babies. My youngest is 6 so I totally get it. I don't know however how parents in cities with new babies feel comfortable traveling in uber/lyft without carseats for 1 - 5 year olds. I would freak out.
But the cost was like $50 for the day but no gas in car, no toll on bridge, and yes i had to pay for bart tickets and parking but it wasn't bad overall. I liked the convenience.
QMM, if the luggage wasn't handcarry, you could walk to get your car asap then come back and get your luggage parking in the 15 minute free parking.

Do Uber and Lyft allow children to ride unrestrained? I certainly hope not. Not only is it ridiculously dangerous but they'd also be in violation of the law. I can't imagine the companies would open themselves up to that liability.Originally posted by LivingAlmostLarge View PostI don't know however how parents in cities with new babies feel comfortable traveling in uber/lyft without carseats for 1 - 5 year olds.Steve
