  • Ebay for selling LP albums as lots?

We have around 40-50 LP records, mostly prog rock, 70's rock, some metal, a few in the 80s. The first thing that came to mind was ebay, but doing individual listings would be a logistical nightmare, so I am thinking lots.

Has anyone here sold LP lots on ebay? Just wondering if it makes sense to make 3 lots by genre, or whatever. I see past auction lots of 35 going over $200!

    Some of the albums...
Yes (90125, 9012Live, Drama, Tormato, The Yes Album, Yessongs, Tales, Relayer, Tormato, Fragile, Big Generator, more), Led Zeppelin, Genesis, ELP, Kansas, Rush, Beatles, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Loverboy, Billy Joel, Chicago, Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Frampton, etc.

This is in the spirit of decluttering, and even scoring a little cash on the side.

Unless you have some rare recordings or pictures discs, it is usually just easier to put them on Craigslist or contact a vintage store to sell them. There might be a rock memorabilia show in your area that you can either get a booth or just sell to someone in bulk. Records have to be in excellent to brand new condition to be worth your time to list on eBay, even in bulk. Lots of 6 Yes albums sold between $9 and $33 recently. That wouldn't be worth my time, especially if I had to account for breakage while shipping.

I have sold some things in bulk on eBay, mostly vintage junk like perfume bottles or toys. I'd rate it a "meh". You have to price it low enough to attract resellers so you would not be getting top dollar. Probably not even a fair price once you account for shipping supplies and your time. I also got a few of the "I'm only interested in one. Can you cancel your listing and sell it separately?" emails, and requests for pictures of every minute detail. Even then, I would estimate that 50% of the lots sold on the first listing.

I have been slowly decluttering my music clutter for a few years. I kept my picture discs and autographed copies and then put all the other records in a box labeled "free" at a garage sale. I still don't know what I will do with the other records. I also have about 50 or more concert shirts that are sitting in a box that were about to get listed, but now my daughter is starting to wear them. She went to her first concert this month and now she is hooked.

I had my mother's LP collection & sold them to a music store that stocks/sells a bunch of them. I figured that way was both easiest & most likely to have them enjoyed again. I brought them in, the owners went through them individually, and we're really happy to see some, and at least was aware of most of the others... So it worked out pretty well. Hardest part was just finding the "right" store.

I would think selling albums on eBay would be difficult because it is so hard to describe condition and shipping is difficult. I agree with taking them to a shop that buys them. You may not get as much but it will be far easier.

I'd possibly do a combination of selling them to a store and selling on eBay. Depending on the album, some may actually be worth more money than the store would offer. A quick search of sold listings under Led Zeppelin LP, brought up some that sold for over $1000. Of course, the least was $0.99! If you have something rare or in demand, you may make more selling yourself.

If you are looking for a quick turn around, then yes, look for a store that will buy all and be done with it. They will get the profit for doing the work.
