  • Where does the money go w/out a DOE?

    Directly to the states? Families?

Until Congress actually dissolves the DOE, it's kind of premature to discuss it as it's just speculation.

That said, the Fed will probably continue to handle student loans and hopefully everything surrounding disabled students. I don't know enough about the rest of what DOE does but hopefully schools will continue to get the funds they currently receive. Even though Federal funds are a small piece of their budgets, like 5-10% I believe, losing that would still be disastrous for schools across the country and the millions of students involved. There's no way states can pick up that slack.

Just a reminder to keep this focused on finances and not politics.

DOE refers to the Department of Energy. ED is the official acronym for the US Department of Education.

As for where the money goes, I think we're all waiting to find out.
        History will judge the complicit.

            Not a chance.

The Philadelphia school district gets about $500 million/year in Federal funds. There’s no way they could raise taxes enough to recoup that money if it disappears. They’d be forced to close schools, slash staff, double class sizes, eliminate programs and services, etc. It would decimate education in this country.

I had similar thoughts but at the rate things are going I wasn’t sure if that was going to be the outcome or just too doom and gloom.

I can’t keep up with the news (and finding reliable sources)
