  • Anyone use Waymo autonomous driving cars and is the price similar to Uber/Lyft?

Los Angeles has a lot of these autonomous Jaguar I-pace vehicles. Sometimes 2 of these driverless vehicles are next to me at a red traffic light. I am amazed to see no driver but passengers in the back seat. These vehicles are smart and amazing how they change lanes if let's say a vehicle in front is making a left turn waiting for a clear path to turn left the Waymo vehicle behind it blinkers to the right and changes lanes and not wait behind the left turning vehicle in front. I'm guessing it is same price as Uber/Lyft.

Couldn't pay me to get in one.

I am not ready to get into a driverless car. That said, I’ve been a passenger with some pretty awful drivers where I was truly afraid so driverless probably isn’t any worse. At least the driver isn’t on their cell phone the whole time.

Oh absolutely. I've taken an uber exactly once in my life and only because I really had no other option and needed to be somewhere. Thankfully the driver was halfway decent at driving. He did show up in a brand new Cadillac Escalade. The one he had was over $100k new. But I don't like when people other than DH drive. And when it's the two of us, I prefer to drive. When we go places with others I typically offer to drive, or meet them there. It's one of my "things". I've taken a cab less than 5 times in my life, probably.

A driverless car is a step too far at this point. The tech needs to be more widespread, and when it is, they'll have to pull my cold dead hands off my own steering wheel

Our EV has self-driving features and I've experimented plenty. It's not a Tesla and it isn't full self driving, but it will steer, accelerate, brake, and change lanes on its own. It's a future to which I'm not looking forward.

We’ve used Uber a number of times when traveling and have never had a bad experience. We’ve also used it a couple of times to get to and from whiskey events knowing we wouldn’t be able to drive home.

I actually do look forward to self-driving cars. I just don’t think the tech is fully advanced yet.

I predict in 2 years by the amount of Waymo cars I see in Los Angeles, it be fully adopted and operational. Last night alone I saw 5 of these cars.

I think autonomous vehicles still have a good 5-10 years to go before they start to become highly reliable. The potential benefits are there for sure. And, could it keep intoxicated people from injuring themselves or others with their car? I think it holds a lot of promise! I think about seniors who can't/shouldn't drive, and disabled folks, and how autonomous vehicles could potentially set them free.

It's just not something I want for myself right now. If I need it in 40 years, maybe.

My husband has and said it's safer than some drivers. I thought you needed to be invited to test run the app?

I have no doubt about that at all. I see lousy drivers every day. It's scary out there.

Just returned from a golf trip to Phoenix (Scottsdale). Waymo vehicles were ubiquitous. We used one to take a short trip to a restaurant. Was definitely impressed. Others in the group used it more frequently. All reviews were positive (no sketchy moves or close calls).

I would even go as far saying in 5 yrs it would be cheaper to hire a Waymo then to own a car.

I already know people who use Uber instead of owning a car. A woman I used to work with Ubered to and from work every day.

GM to use NVDIA chips for its self driving cars.
