For the lighters specifically, I have no idea what her intentions were. But from listening to the briefest of discussions, of which I was not a direct part of, she was purchasing them for herself.

Maybe her family owns a gas station. That might make sense to resale and make a $5 profit for each.

As for an individual, coming across a good deal and saying "I want to sale lighters on the side" yeah its silly.

The packaging was decorated with American flags, so I assume they were left over from 4th of July. Why Kroger wouldn't stock them with their other lighters I don't know.

It’s so ridiculous when stores blow out items because of “holiday” packaging. They’ll sell orange and black Halloween candy for pennies on the dollar on 11/1 so they can stuff the shelves with red and green Christmas candy at full price. Savvy shoppers can get great deals that way. I really don’t care what color wrapper is on my chocolate bar. It all tastes the same.

I know a lot of resellers who stock up on pumpkin spice stuff at clearance and do well selling it throughout the year when it’s not available anywhere.

I'm one of those people buying from resellers!

As to buying 50 lighters no. but I'm not a reseller. However Mark Cuban says "Buy it cheap, stack it deep." He was referring to toothpaste. Sure I just bought toothpaste 5 pack from costco. I could wait for a coupon sale but I'm lazy and don't want to buy the paper and wait for the sale. Sale at costco? Done. One box of 5 tubes will last DH a couple of years.

I also am learning to buy and resell after done. Trying to resell a used saxaphone. I did that with kid strollers and baby gear and dog crates. I'm one of those people who buy and resell but it's not to make money. Its usually because I buy it, use it or don't like it and flip it. I'm not trying to screw people, I just sometimes l don't like what I bought.

Buying used and reselling is the best deal around. We just had this conversation with someone we met today. She said she almost never buys anything new and when she's done with an item, she resells it. The great thing about used items is they hold their value far better than new items so you can typically get back all or most of what you paid. It's essentially a free rental service. And if you take good care of the things, clean them up well, maybe make minor repairs, you can even sell them for more than you paid for them.
