[When electric fails, there is no access to bank machines or CCs].

I kept $200 hidden in my car and needed it this weekend. Ok, I didn't need it but my sisters were going to the casino and I didn't bring my debit card or have cash on me. Of course, my husband saw where I had hidden it earlier and "thinks he may have" moved it to the console, and now there is nothing but the empty black poop bag it was wrapped in. I'm assuming the valet got it when we took our daughter out for dinner. I was thinking of increasing it to $500 since motels want a deposit if you pay with cash, but now I'm glad I didn't.

I spent a good portion of my Ef when my mother passed away and I took care of her final expenses since no sibling was able to even chip in for it.

I would never hide anything of value in my car.

I do "hide" $200 in my wallet in the inside compartment. I do honestly forget that it's there. I just got a new wallet last week and when I cleaned out the old one, I almost forgot to take that money out.

        * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
        * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
        * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I'm the opposite. My car looks empty to people passing by. I have a designer purse and muggings/purse snatches are on the rise here. I have a much greater chance of having my purse stolen than my car broken into or stolen, especially since idiots around here leave their laptops in their unlocked car and then are amazed that someone took it. There are some easy pickins around here. I usually keep $20 or less in my purse and just use credit cards for everything.

            This subject comes up frequently.

We have a portion of salary auto-deposited every pay period, so the EF grows continually. The EF funds are used for unexpected expenses, shortfalls (like owing tax), and for "major" car expenses such as repairs and tires. We also tap into it for the occasional scope creep when we start a project with planned funds and run into a want or need associated with that.
