Portfolio Optimization Resources?

    All - I'm posting another update here.

    Post reading 'All about asset allocation" instead of picking individual stocks (which was giving me a 5% return), I bought the following:

    1. About $4,000 worth of the Vanguard total bond market index fund
    2. About $3,000 in Dodge and Cox's stock mutual fund
    3. About $1,000 in Vanguard's small cap value index fund.

    I'm still buying some individual stocks (mostly Coca Cola), but my portfolio is a little more sane these days from a diversification perspective.

      You never answered my question in post 16 about why you chose the Dodge and Cox fund. It’s really not a good choice in my opinion. See my earlier comments.

      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.
