What you did by buying one to live in during a remodel is actually fairly common in some rural areas near me. A good friend at the lake did this for about a year while he built a home from scratch, and was able to find it barely used from a seller who did the same thing! He's in the process of selling it, but because he got it pretty cheap to begin with, he's not looking at a major percentage loss.
We had a pop up for about 10 years and loved it! The kids were little and it was a blast for them, plus it was easy to tow. When we retire, I'd love to buy a used lightweight travel trailer and go on a cross country trip with it. We're not really into city stuff. After a couple years, sell it.
