  • Daughter got beat up for bullying a child.

My daughter had been bullying one of her classmates for a while, and the girl got fed up and ended up beating her up, resulting in my daughter receiving a black eye. Now she has to go back to school and she's asked me to cover up her eye with make up so her peers don't notice. I'm a little hesitant b/c although I don't want her to get teased, I'm wondering if maybe a little embarrassment will cause her to think about the consequences of her actions? Any advice would be most appreciated!

    *Btw she's in 8th grade.

A black eye for a day or two won't make up for the "while" of her bulling the other girl, so let her suffer. And you should verify with the principal that the other girl did not get suspended due to a (hypocritical) zero tolerance policy which only catches the responder.

I think you meant to go to SavingFace.com.

I think you will get better responses from your thread at enotalone https://www.enotalone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=541985

If you wind up needing answers as to how to pay subsequent medical bills or something like that, that would be more for this forum.

I would help her cover her bruise. Teaching consequences is one thing, trying to teach that bullying is wrong by provoking schoolmates to bully her is another. My daughter would be grounded for a month, no phone, and so many new chores to do that she wouldn't have time to go out with her friends anyway.

You're talking about public shaming which we know is psychologically damaging to people, especially someone as young as her. Take care of your child and work with her in understanding what is making her feel the need to bully another child.

Ignores the fact that the "bullee" was publicly shamed for... "a long time".

Omg I'm just now realizing this is a forum about saving money. I searched "advice forums" and this is one of the first ones that popped up LOL. Thanks for the input anyways. I'm probably gonna cover up the eye. I think she's been through enough.
