Everything in the freezer was defrosted and all but a few items had to be trashed. I have no idea of the monetary value of everything. Probably $100 or more.

That's tragic... we've had the same thing happen a couple times (our large standing freezer doesn't always seal well without conscious effort), though gratefully most of it was typically salvageable...Benefit of a 45*F garage in the winter, I suppose. That's one benefit that I've found of our (smaller) chest freezer -- gravity closes it for us, and even if the power's out or it somehow doesn't seal, everything stays frozen alot longer in the chest freezer.

And don't look at me like a weirdo for having 2 storage freezers in the garage (lol) -- it's Alaska, so everyone needs plenty of storage space for fish/moose/bear/reindeer meat, and the tall freezer came with the house!

So sorry to hear this Steve. I have a 21 cubic ft upright that I loved filling up and organizing so I knew what I had. Just as it got harder and harder to almost impossible to down to the basement to fetch food, the sump pumps couldn't keep up with our high water level and the bottom foot or two of the freezer got drenched. I no longer use it, just have my side by side freezer with is really hard to keep organized. Then I still forget what is in it. but I'm ready to start cookie gain. I got a rice cooker to make rice in that is much easier than making it in the microwave and I have never been able to make it on an electric stove. I also got a NINJA Foodi which is stunning in all the things it can do. I am looking hard at trying to find things that are easy for me to make and so that we aren't throwing food out because I forgot about it.

September was a rough month and I fell at the beginning of it and had to call for help from the ambulance crew. For some reason, they sent folks from two different departments and now we owe a bill of $250 for the one and $150 for the other. $400 just to get me back on my feet! It was showing just how sick I was as later in the day I was admitted to the hospital for Sepsis! I didn't feel loopy but my husband said I was, and only now I am looking back and realizing how out of sync my brain was! Thankfully I'm feeling much better, but had to pick up one more specialist to my list that I get to see tomorrow. My third doctor visit in three days. I am whooped.

We have a fridge/freezer combo in our kitchen and one in the garage and a little 5 cub upright in the basement. I keep a list on the kitchen freezer of what is in each one so I know where to go to get what and also so I use food and it doesn't go to waste.

Another tip I learned, I keep a clear plastic cup filled with water in my basement freezer and once that froze I put a penny on top. If the freezer ever quits the water in the cup will melt and the penny will fall. I pretty much get in my freezer every few days and no alarm on my freezer so it would help me judge how frozen the food still is.

I have had a doozy of a month. I suddenly became guardian of my youngest nephew and he is costing a lot more than expected. I filled up the fridge when he moved in and it promptly broke. Lost everything in the fridge and freezer and water from what used to be the ice maker messed up the wood floor. We decided to buy a new one since the quote was $1,000, and the new one stopped working within 24 hrs, so I lost all of that food as well. I'm estimating about $500 worth all in. The 2nd fridge has been fixed 3 times already and I'm still waiting on parts. I'm ready to tell Whirlpool to shove it. Our aquarium filter, coffee maker, and toaster also decided to join in on the fun, but those will have to wait for now. Nephew got caught with a vape pen at school and was fined $250 by the police, so that was exciting. Now I have to pay for therapy and for whatever after school activity I can force him into. Had to pay $856 for vet bills because now both cats are considered elderly and need more lab work. I'm going to look for a cheaper vet. A $5 part on our sump pump broke and flooded half of the basement. Thankfully, most of the things that were ruined were going to be thrown out anyway. Our daughter's flute broke and I had to buy a new one in time for a competition. I'm lucky that I found an overstock one from another country and "only" paid $500. A new one costs over $900. Rentals are on a yearly contract and would have cost almost $400, so I didn't have much of a choice.

The only bright spot was that pixels burned out on our TV ONE MONTH after the LG warranty expired, but we bought the geek squad warranty. It would have cost us $1,100 for a new screen. I know people think that extended warranties are a waste, but I use them every time I get one.

My wife went downstairs to do laundry this morning and called up to me that something was beeping. I went down with a pretty good idea of what it was and I was correct. Apparently, last night when she went to the freezer to get something out for dinner, she accidentally didn't fully close the door. The beeping was the temperature alarm which had obviously been sounding all night (it isn't very loud). Everything in the freezer was defrosted and all but a few items had to be trashed. I have no idea of the monetary value of everything. Probably $100 or more. I guess we need to do some shopping and cooking this weekend to restock.

Our renters moved out of one of the rental houses the beginning of last month and we haven't gotten new renters in yet - loss of $1,700 so far. Good news is that there was relatively zero damage - so no out of pocket expenses there. Hopefully someone moves in sooner rather than later.

What a smart idea! We lose power fairly regularly. On Halloween it was out for over 3 hours during a storm that demolished the things that keep waves from eating up beach front property. Bad night all round. It was my birthday so my son took me out to eat so I missed most of the outage. But it happens.

Our car, the bought and paid for one, and our ONLY one wouldn't pass inspection because it needed bodywork. It has been in the garage for 4 weeks now. He is supposed to be bringing it home tonight and it is already pitch black out, but I am out of my Potassium tablets and I tend to run low on K even on the tablets so I have to still get to the drugstore. Last week I was also out of meds and my son came and got me and took me to the drugstore and the grocery store. $1590 for the car. We still have to get a few other things fixed and the actual inspection sticker. We only drive around 4000 miles a year so since we got the car, we have only put maybe 25,000 on it. It has been a good car and I didn't want to spend money to get a beater that we would just have to replace. But what a pain.

Ugh, I wanted to forget but Gailettes post reminded me. Now don't anyone tell me we could of got these thing fixed cheaper, I don't want to hear it! It is what it is!

My DH inherited his dads Cadillac CTS. I didn't want it but he refused to sell. Its so expensive to fix and my Dh drives it 100 miles day to and from work. Paid $1500 for new Cadillac converter in Oct. And just now the sun roof leaked on the inside and burned out some computer stuff to the tune of $1300!! Every time something goes wrong its over $1000 to fix! In the 3 years I've had this "free" car I've dumped 8k into it(there isn't an appropriate mad face emoji to insert here that conveys my feelings!!!).

But FINALLY my dh agrees with me that we will dump this lemon come spring!!!

A couple days ago DH took the dog out at 4am. He grabbed his umbrella on his way out, but didn't need it so he left it at the base of the stairs at our apartment complex. When he returned 5 minutes later it was gone. He never imagined anyone would be out and about at 4am---lesson learned. I found a replacement today at a decent price ($10 for a golf umbrella). It wasn't the end of the world. But it was still $10+tax spent needlessly. I hope the person who took it was someone who really needed it to stay dry and couldn't afford to buy their own.

Last night I tried replacing my cracked screen on my phone, only to damage the motherboard in the process, so now no display at all. Kicking myself on this one. I only had the phone for about 18 months, which I try to get at least 36 months out as I buy them up front. Due to work and travel next week, I ended up ordering the same new phone on eBay for 170, instead of 400 when I originally bought.

My dog & I went shopping at the pet supply store yesterday. Because I was only getting a few things, I carried my picks in my hand, and set them all down on the conveyor belt at once. I was watching my dog while things were rung up, and just grabbed my bag of purchases and shoved the receipt in my purse before heading out the door. When I got home and unpacked the bag I realized it contained a small toy I had selected but eventually decided not to buy. Darn! Now I have to go back to the store to make a return. I'll be heading right past that store in the next couple of days so it's not the end of the world, but still it means an extra stop, a bit of wasted time & gas.

We made a short trip to the casino yesterday. Had to take my mom to the airport, which is close to the casinos. We had a great lunch at their buffet and I got 50% off from their rewards club, so $19.99 for both of us. We paid for it in the casino, though. I lost $10. DW lost $40. That's really not bad and I'm not the least bit upset about it but it is a loss. I always consider casino time to be entertainment no different than going to a movie or show. It occupied our time for a couple of hours.
