As do I. I lived through a husband pulling those kinds of stunts. and when out credit card bills, mortgage and car payment, hit higher than our combined take home income I knew he had to go no matter how I felt about him. The stress was killing me.

Suggestion for daughter's bedrm suite. It is no longer fashionable to use a matching suite. You can sell the idea to her as 'déclassé.' It's practical to buy a sized adjustable, roller frame, usually available from online FB sellers or Habitat Re-store for the box spring & mattress. The Pecan colored headboard attaches with bolts. It's a fun and nearly fail proof project to use Chalk paint to give the pieces a brand new look. No undercoat needed, slight sanding to better adhere paint and merely roller on.

There is a good chance that silver was worth more then than it is now and is he really going to make his parents lose money? I have a feeling he thinks the collection is worth more now and we should pay the difference, but we just don't have that kind of money right now. But he loves to complicate things.
Coin collections are almost always overvalued. I would recommend taking it to a trust worthy coin shop and getting a purchase quote, not an appraisal. With coins I find there is a large difference between what someone will pay and what the owner thinks they are worth.

That's very true, but irrelevant if you've already promised to sell at an over-valued price.

Earlier today I read an article explaining the sale of gold coins are down, world wide. With gold prices dropping and yet another war threatening, would you consider buying gold coins as Christmas gifts?

Do many SA participants have coin collections? My dad gave me an African gold coin [in a bezel] as his personal wedding gift to me and it's a pretty necklace worn on a simple gold chain.

I wouldn't be averse to giving low-weight (2 to 2.5 gram) gold bars or rounds to our children as gifts, but as curios instead of a store of value.

Since the manufacturing & purchase overhead of such small-unit bits of gold is a relatively high fraction of the cost of the product, I'd probably give them 1 oz silver rounds or bars. Again, just as curios for the "ooh, I own precious metals!" factor.

Full disclosure for my Oct 6 - Oct 9 Las Vegas trip unfortunately I can't post in the post your wins thread. But my overall loss was under $100 for 3 free nights at M Resort which I'm not complaining about and is pretty good actually but a loss nonetheless.

I always consider gambling to be part of our entertainment spending. If you can go to Vegas for 3 nights and have the trip only cost you $100, that's damn cheap entertainment.

                  * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
                  * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

That could be the case normally, but not with my husband. The last time we sold silver, the shop owner offered more than we were expecting because he graded the coins higher than my husband did. Then my husband disagreed with the owner to the point of the owner getting irritated and I had to tell him to shut up and take the deal.

Probably not gold simply because I don't spend that much on gifts. From what I see, gold has risen quite a bit, not gone down. I think that is why sales are down. A $5 eagle is roughly $160, ungraded. I buy my daughter a silver coin every Christmas in lieu of candy, and I usually pay between $15-$21, depending on spot price. We had kind of a large collection years ago, but we sold it all during the 18 months or so we went without pay. We bought a few pieces here and there when prices dipped, but there hasn't been a buying opportunity for a long while. My daughter might not get a coin this year.

She has decided to take the spare bedroom furniture so she can have a queen sized bed, so that is one less thing for me to worry about. Her current set up is one of those crib-to-bed things and my husband couldn't attach the headboard to a metal frame before. He may have been wrong. It looks like the screws moved around on the head board and the holes have widened, though.

I don't think a queen is going to fit in any 2nd bedroom we move to, if we stick to my plan. The cheaper houses are much smaller than ours. If that is the case, she will just have to make do with a metal frame until she is an adult. Her tastes change like the wind.

Of course, since it's your house, you and your husband have the final say in what goes in her room.

I played mainly .25 cents full pay 8/5 (full house/flush) bonus poker single line (5 coin max). Some of the wins I got was a straight flush for 250 quarters, four of kind in three's for 200 quarters, and a few regular four of a kinds for 125 quarters. At one point I bumped up to .50 cents triple double bonus poker and got a four of a kind in sixes for 250 coins. I also played some Cle0patra and regular keno getting 120 quarters or 80 quarters and smaller hits. You can do the math. These hits helped to keep my bank roll mainly intact minus about less than $100. I also played $30 in a $5 Wheel of Fortune machine (2 coin max) which is just 3 spins but no spin symbol came up for me. The wheel has any where from $100 to $1199, if a spin comes along. I went for an invitational free slot tournament (no wins) which included 3 free nights at M Resort. It also included a free ($39 value) buffet at Studio B buffet in M Resort which is a pretty good buffet which includes all you can drink beer or wine. The red wine was smooth and easy to drink with New York steak, crab legs, sushi, etc. And the room had a nice view of the Las Vegas strip with McCarran and the planes coming in for landing, it was very nice at night seeing all the lights from the hotels and planes landing.

OUCH! Is she okay? That is the important thing. I assume you canceled the coverage since you were at the point it wasn't worth it to keep paying on it. If they were only going to give you $500 no matter what, it would have been a logical choice under some circumstances.
