  • How much do you plan on spending (or spent already) on Christmas?

5 nieces and nephews combined, $50 each so $250. Parents $100 each so $200. Subordinates at work 3 total, will email them Amazon gift cards $20 or $25 each, another $75 total. Overall, $250 + $200 + $75 = $525 this year.

We don't celebrate Christmas so nothing for family. I have gifted coworkers in the past but as I'm now per diem, I don't have a set crew to do that for. I do need to pick up something for the clerk at my post office so probably $25 there. That's about it.

I have spent less than $30 cash. I used a combination of coupons to get my children’s gifts and spent a total of $12.83 for them. I spent around $13 for little candy bags for my co workers. I used gift cards I had gotten from my work for my birthday to get my sister, her partner and my family friend I live with gifts.

In addition to gifts, the season also seems to have us spend more on dinners, drinks, parties (attending and hosting), etc. In addition, we try to have a modicum of generosity with regular service providers (e.g., dog groomer, hair stylist, etc). My estimate would be $1.5-2k in Christmas related spend.

          $1255 flights to CA
$500 for the family we “adopted” for Christmas
          $500 husband
          $190 husband’s grandma
$100 nephews (+$200 to their college fund but I’m not counting that as Christmas)
$100 family Secret Santa and White Elephant exchange
          $100 friends’ kids gifts
$60 for the little neighborhood girls that walk our dog
          $50 ornaments
          $40 hostess gifts
          $30 mailman / trash collectors

          Total: $2925

Gosh it adds up quick. This is a pretty standard year for us.

On the flight home now! So excited!

            $0

The only people we exchange gifts with are the in-laws, but they always give us more cash than we'd ever spend on them. So we literally plan/budget $0 for Christmas.

We do charity spending this time of year, but it's more just paying forward gifts. I mean, if no one gave us any money this month, I'd probably just skip it. We just aren't interested in participating in the materialism, so have shifted more focus to charity.

Honestly, we don't track it carefully. We aim for $50-$75/person for the (rotating) extended family members that we're buying gifts for this year. Roughly $100/person for our kids, though their gifts are driven less by cost & more by "something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read." Our kids get ~4 gifts from us, one under each of those categories. Gifts between DW & I are minimal in number, somewhat aligned to our gifting rhyme, though often more expensive. Otherwise, little things here & there for Christmas parties, small gifts to friends/kids' teachers, etc.

We're driving out of town to do Christmas with DW's family, sharing an AirBnB with BIL & his family. Don't know the exact cost, but it is what it is. Staying with family members is not possible -- their homes are disaster zones for FIL/MIL & SIL. I've long-since refused to stay with most of DW's family, except the BIL we're sharing the place with.

We have the blessing of living far below our fairly capable means... So I don't pay much attention to our spending for special events, on the philosophy that we'll spend what seems appropriate within rough guidelines.

We typically gift our two kids several thousand dollars apiece. May as well give it to them now when they can use it, rather than later.
Grandkids will get a few gifts too.

Otherwise Christmas is about getting everyone together and having lots of good food and fun.

We'll be at around $550 for Christmas proper (gifts for 4, evergreens for outside, cards & stamps, small extra donation). As soon as Christmas is done, I'll start shopping and cooking for New Year and plan to spend approx an extra $100 on food and drink for that. Sister will come for a girl's weekend later in lieu of a gift, maybe another $100 for that. So let's call it about $750 for the holidays all-in.

I have a budget of $1300 for the family (8 people) then we do up big bags of candy and cookies for our vet/chemist/doctors office and local hospital, I also add in the budget money to buy food for the food bank, backpacksforsakids(fosterkids) for their xmas gifts and for the local rspca for the animals...so between 1600-1800 deping on the deals we get...just need to take the xmash cash out the bank and I'm done

I don't know but I'd rather not think about it. But couple of random expenses

Airline tickets to hawaii on way $750 for me and DK
$1200 for return ticket for DK1 and DH
$300 ticket to hawaii for DH
-ticket prices have gone way up this year

                        Unexpected expenses
-BIL got covid we couldn't stay overnight like planned with him so hotel room $115
-rented car as well $40 (used points) but gas was $20
-went out to eat at a more expensive place so $100

keep on buying stuff to make my parents life easier right now like new google routers $450, wheelchair ramp $500, random stuff I keep buying and ordering on amazon. I see my CC bill and blink considering i havent' been eating out but still.

Wanted to go to Home Depot tonight after work but just realized hello it's Christmas day, lol. I have a rat infestation and set up multiple glue & spring snapping Victor traps both for mice and rats which has not caught a single one. They are so smart. Last week at Home Depot I bought D-Con rat bait poison 6 block baits $9.99. Under my kitchen cabinets at the base board there is a 2" gap along the entire base board where they enter & exit and so I dropped all 6 baits into that opening. A rat's foot got stuck in a small mouse glue trap but was able to make it back into the opening taking the glue trap with it (I heard it squeeling and I heard the plastic glue trap making lots of noise as the rat wiggled its way back into the opening. 3x's the small mouse spring action Victor traps went off but no mouse (I think the rat might have gotten hit in the head but is too big for the small mouse trap). Anyway wanted to buy more D-Con baits and will drop more inside then with a 1 x 3 x 24" plyboard seal the opening and hope they don't return.
