  • Ask For A Better Price

Forty something guy here. One of the biggest changes I've made in my life is I always ask for a better price if I think I can get it.

For example, we use Comcast cable. We had a 12 month introductory rate with them for $49.99 per month. The rate expired and they wanted to raise the price to $74.99. I called and haggled. Got the price back down to $49.99.

Its the same with car insurance, I regularly call to see if I can get the price down.

I'm definitely guilty of "inertia spending" - not taking a few minutes to try and get a better deal. I've been meaning to get new auto insurance quotes for ages, for example. And I definitely dragged my feet on knocking down our cable bill a while back.

Ugh cable is the worst! Congrats to you for knocking it back down to your intro rate, how'd you do that?? I always call and its the same old story..after rate expires they say new rate will be $20 more, I call and they will only have it go up $10 more. EVERY YEAR!!

I'm Time Warner now, but they've changed to Spectrum. I've heard horror stories about how high the bills are going to go with them! What stinks is my rate always expires in Nov and that's right in the middle of football, no way would DH let me cancel cable. If my rate expired now I'd just freaking cancel, go with basic and then try to get on again somewhere as a new customer for a cheaper price. I'm just sick of this whole game we have to play with cable every year!!

I have Spectrum now, too. I have also heard horror stories from my friends. They are the only game in town. I have a contract from Time Warner that they are honoring until Oct 2018 but this month had an extra charge of $25 on it with no reason given. I have to call. I'd consider a Dish but they don't work with tivos, which we use with every tv and love. Cable is a racket.

Can you call them and see if they'll give you a break on the fee?

Spectrum increased my TV to $109 from $79 when it was Time Warner. So I cancelled my TV and subscribed to Play Station Vue for $44.99, I am happy with it.

Now my internet with Spectrum is another battle that I foresee coming soon. With Time Warner I had the $15 everyday low price per month. Spectrum's lowest priced internet is $45. It will be only a matter of time when Spectrum sends me a notice of increase to the new $45 (I'm guessing).

frontier and comcast. We have a deal of $65/month no contract and fast. But when it was comcast only let's just say they didn't care what we thought since who were we going to switch to???? No one. HAHAHA. They could charge us $79/month and laugh about it.
