I've never been able to pull the trigger on getting a gym membership, because I'd want a gym with a pool, and gyms with pools aren't cheap. $40/person/month for a gym with a pool is pretty good, although I would have hoped an employee discount would have made it even cheaper.
I've considered just swimming at the high school pool, which is $5/day. But, the hours are after the swim team is done with practice, by which point I'm home and can't get the motivation to go back out to swim.
If your wife is mostly interested in classes, perhaps it better to find some classes she can take without having to join anything. My local community center offers a variety of classes in yoga, aerobics, martial arts, and such. You're unlikely to find anything that requires large equipment, like spinning. I took a few classes in the spring, and I really enjoyed it. I'm sitting out the summer because I started to get really busy as the weather warmed up. But, I'm looking forward to starting up again in the fall.
