  • Anyone else following the downward spiral of the Euro?

Ever since I retired a few years back my wife and I have gone to Europe on 2 week vacations at least once a year. On our first trip I think the Euro was something like 1.30 to 1.00 USD. Currently today it's at .0969 and still falling. Almost thinking of buying a few thousand in Euro once it settles to something lower. Just not sure what that low will be but I'm certainly following it.

Nice to finally catch a break on Europe trips, just temporary I'm sure though. Recession wise, Europe is worse off than the US right now. It'll be interesting to see how low it goes.

Here's a good example of how exchange rates varies although not euros these are for pesos. I used to exchange at Wells Fargo but notice $105 for 1970 pesos vs $100 for the same 1970 pesos at the border where they have about 10 places to exchange currency. I used to buy $1000 at a time at Wells Fargo which would cost $50 more than at the border. It makes sense since those 10 places at the border are competitors with each other so I'm always looking for the most bang for my buck where as Wells Fargo has a captured clientele and has to pay whatever Wells Fargo sets their exchange rate. Now I buy $100 at a time at the border instead of Wells Fargo.

We were just in Europe and I loved being able to take advantage of the exchange rate. I did the opposite of investing and did a little shopping.
