  • Always search for a coupon code when shopping online

We've talked about this before but just a reminder. Before placing an online order for pretty much anything, take a few seconds and search "name of company" and "coupon", so, for example, "company ABC coupon". You can frequently find some sort of discount. It might be a percentage off or free shipping or a couple of dollars off.

We are currently on vacation in Phoenix and I just went online to book a scenic lake cruise tomorrow. Before completing my order, I searched and found that there is a discount for AAA of $3/person so I saved $6 for a few seconds of my time.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

You can add spending money in person as well. I don't eat out much at all, but a number of year ago my ex had an invitation to take both of us out to eat (not an expensive place, but not McD either). I felt bad as the person probably made much less than we did, but I knew my ex wanted to go. So I did a 30 minute search online and found a mention of a current magazine that had a buy one entrée, get one entrée free coupon. I drove us to the restaurant, told my ex I would be come in after I went and checked a nearby store. They had one copy left, I bought it for $1, ripped out the coupon, and tossed the magazine in the car. That gave them a chance to chat for a bit, and I came in and gave her the coupon and said to use it for my meal. That way I didn't have to pay for the meal, and didn't have the guilt of someone else paying for it either.

Nowadays I think its more likely to find an online coupon, but the technique still holds.
Don't torture yourself, thats what I'm here for.

True. A couple of times we've been somewhere and before going in, we checked Groupon and Living Social and found a deal. We bought it and used it right away. That's how we joined BJ's a couple of weeks ago. We were in line at the store when I bought the Groupon.
