  • Antiques Road Show: What are your most valuable collectible items? Besides vehicles

We don't have a ton of expensive collectibles.

    -The usual miscellaneous jewelry
    - American Flyer train set
    - One vintage Rolex Submariner
    - One semi-vintage hers Rolex
    - About 8 vintage rifles, shotguns, and pistols
    - a Nazi banner that flew at the SS headquarters in Berlin
    - a pristine 1971 Honda Trail 90 that my dad restored
    - half a dozen bamboo fly rods
    - Scottish tall case clock circa 1851
    - Large antique Persian rug

Maybe we even work a trade! 😜

Just interested to hear the misc odd things folks have.

Absolutely. Pre-1980s before they mass produced them, there are a few "newer' cards worth some money, but the golden age was definitely back in the day.

Two gems among many that I have

That Larry Bird one is cool. I got to see him play in college once. After Jordan, James, Magic, and Bill Russell, there's Larry Bird.

The only collectible I have are a couple thousand sports cards from the late 80's/early 90's that are less valuable than Charmin Ultra Soft. I'm probably going to toss them soon.

Yep, that's the era of my collection too, I have a few that have some value but most are garbage

I have dozens of small paintings I've acquired from various thrift shops and antique stores. No idea what any of them are worth, and don't really care. I also have a couple of old reverse painted snuff bottles.

All of the dishes we use are handmade stoneware pottery and handmade blown glass from thrift shops. One of them was made in 1941. Most have no dates. Around half look like they were made by students or beginning level hobbyists. Some are very well and professesionally made. I don't care what any of them are worth either.

I don't have a whole lot of jewelry of any real value either. Lots of sterling silver with semiprecious stones that I mostly buy at Goodwill. One pair of black diamond and gold earrings, and one black diamond ring set in sterling, both gifts from my husband.

I suppose the most valuable would be our hand knotted rugs. The better ones are from Iran, but I also have some from Morocco and Spain.

My dumbest collection is a toss up between my antique sugar tongs and letter openers. I don't use sugar in my coffee or tea, and even if I did I don't have sugar cubes. The letter openers are too delicate to open envelopes. I also have a few wax seals that are never used. I keep telling myself that one day, I will write a letter and it is going to be awesome. And I will sit there and drink tea with a sugar cube in it while doing so.

My firearms collection has significant value. I've collected a ton of taxidermy, unfortunately that stuff has very little value to anyone but me. One of these days my kids are going to have to deal with it all
