  • Adventures in appliance shopping today

Our freezer died the other day. I didn't really have time to do anything about it until today. I shopped online and found one at Lowe's but it was showing it wouldn't be available until September. Not helpful. I checked several other stores including some small local appliance shops. A couple had the same model but for a lot more money of course, and they didn't have any anyway.

I decided to check the store in person because the online stock isn't always accurate. Headed over to the closest Lowe's. They didn't have one but according to their system, another store nearby did. I drove over there and sure enough they had one in stock.

It will be delivered on Wednesday. I even signed up for the Lowe's CC. I won't do that to save 2 bucks at the mall but to save $100 on a large purchase, sure.

I'm sure the stores, and the customers, will be glad when the pandemic supply chain issues are finally resolved.

My dad is remodeling his kitchen and has a stove and a refrigerator on backorder.
He was able to get most of the cabinets he needs, but no appliances or countertops right now.

His kitchen is currently an empty room.

I was able to get all new kitchen appliances for our remodel pretty quickly, delivered in about two weeks.
Have the cabinets & tops ordered well in advance.

You were lucky with the appliances. I think it’s better than it was but there are still a lot of supply issues.

Appliances really depend on what you want. Our stove was delivered last week and fridge is coming this week. Wait time was approx 3 weeks. I did notice some when I was browsing that said delivery wasnt available until May.

very lucky. My mom had a choice of 3 fridges and wasn't happy with any. But I forced her to buy one.

I always buy used. The cost is usually half so even if I have to replace twice as often it still comes out in my favor. There's a used store here that has repair people who will come out to assess, fix for cheap and if they can't fix it, they'll credit the repair trip cost toward purchasing a "new" used unit. Between my primary and my rentals I've brought them a decent amount of business over the years

I wanted & ordered a dishwasher made overseas but when delivery was delayed repeatedly with ETA becoming increasingly vague I settled for an in-stock made in USA brand that was in recovery from a class action lawsuit.

We recently purchased a very small chest freezer 5 cubic foot from a regional box chain, due to quarterly cash back on the credit card (that we pay off every month) and their regular 11% rebate, it cost us less than $100. We're stocking up on food for convenience and to buy(and cook) in bulk. It was easy to bring it home. We probably should get the packaging recycled soon.

Thats weird here in Australia we have plenty of stock when it comes to appliances, no back orders here and haven't during the pandemic...weird as we don't manufacture them

Side tracking this thread to other home goods, "mattresses".

As mentioned, we are living in an RV while renovating our home. Tried for a while but are not satisfied with the queen mattress that came standard with the camper.

Ordered a new inner spring, full thickness mattress via Amazon the other day and just got it put in place. Pretty impressive the way they compress them and roll them up, then vacuum seal them to a small diameter roll and shipping box. You open the box on the bed, cut open the plastic and it rolls out and expands to full size and thickness rather quickly, was told to let it sit all day to fully decompress. Anyway ..... This looks to be a pretty nice mattress, wasn't too expensive, and pretty handy delivered right to the door.

We recently bought a twin that was packaged the same way.
I never thought that it would actually take shape. I was convinced that I's have to return it.
But it popped right into shape and is impressively comfortable

We got new beds two weeks ago. Hybrid mattresses that are memory foam and spring so they got delivered the traditional way by truck. But we also got my wife an extra memory foam topper. Got that on Amazon and it came rolled up. Cut it open and let it expand over a few hours. Those are great.
