I was criticizing hollywood - not the Muslims.

      Re: Da Vinci Code

My apologies... I read and reread it before posting to try to see it another way, and I just couldn't read it as that. Would you like me to edit my post? I don't want to offend...

I thought the book was fantastic, but I'll wait to see the movie on DVD. It takes a very special movie for me to justify spending $9+ (and sitting through 45 minutes of commercials and previews) to see it in a theater.

I enjoyed the book and will probably see the movie. I read it as fiction but can see some plausible ideas in it about Jesus and the Holy Grail.

Haha... we were talking about seeing Over the Hedge too.

My wife read passages to me from the book while she was reading it - I couldn't beleive people thought the book was great. Man, she would read some of it and I'd be like "how could anyone in their right mind come up with THAT idea." I'm not even talking the religious aspects - just as a book.

That's the beauty of fiction. I'm sure the same could be said about Steven King - is he in his right mind to come up with the stuff he comes up with?

Not surprisingly, the book is much better than the movie. Seeing it on DVD is a good choice.

I have to agree with you about Stephen King. Some of his movies, I have loved and other I did not "get" at all!!

                    Re: Da Vinci Code

I have seen the movie ‘THE DA VINCI CODE’ today, having read the illustrated collector’s edition of the book. It has historical facts yes, but it needs to be remembered that this is a novel not Fact!

The movie should be viewed in the same way as any novel with a Hollywood makeover. Thought it was around 90% consistent with book plot, but not for the faint hearted or very young to watch. I did enjoy the sets & scenery, which were a great joy to see.

I do suggest that you read the book before you see the Movie, as the changes are fast that it is sometimes is difficult to make sense while watching. The characters were wholly believable. View it as a good yarn worth watching more than once.

I would give it four stars.

                      Re: Da Vinci Code

I loved the book but had a hard time with the movie. Most of the characters were so perfect except for Hanks and Tautou. They were just not what i pictured in my mind for the characters and i could just not see them as part of the movie. It was difficlut to see tom hanks in that role as i hated the idea ever since i heard about him playing the role two years ago. Great actor but does not fit into this role at all. Same with Tautuo.

Just could not get into the movie. I thought the beginning was well done but about 25 minuts into it i was bored.

IT is important to remember this book is just fiction. My mom is a very conservative Catholic who tried to read the book, but got bored. She is one of the most spiritual, religious, and faithful people i know and she enjoyed the movie. As she and I discussed it, it is a fictional story. If it rocks the foundation of someones faith then perhaps their faith is not stong enough to begin with. And that from my mother! It is just fiction! Enjoy the movie for the enjoyment factor.

On the other hand i had a good friend see the movie after he read the book. He enjoyed both the book and the movie but he is not a believer in any sort of religion. He said had he not read the book he would have been lost. He does not see what the fuss is about in terms of the religious thing. It is just a story!
