I love Thanksgiving. It's all about good food with family & friends, and doesn't have nearly the marketing/consumerism slant that most other major holidays are saddled with. At least it has the appearance of encouraging gratitude in people, which always seems lacking in society. (Of course, black Friday tried to ruin it every year... But whatever)
We're doing Thanksgiving with 25ish members of DW's extended family. Coming from out of town, we're in an AirBnB. But gratefully it was suitably equipped for me to still help with the cooking, just borrowing a few items from the family. What I didn't realize when I offered to cook one of the turkeys: they had a 22lb bird for me -- one of the largest I've ever done. But I love cooking for people, love good food, and the bird is in the oven... So I'm looking forward to enjoying a quiet holiday, great food, and hopefully play some board games with DW's family.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'm always grateful to have you all here as a sounding board & financially smart community.
Butterball is 69 cents at my local Kroger, I'm gonna hit the sales today and tomorrow. If I can go lower, its a no brainer in terms of cost per pound of food.
It's been a quiet Thanksgiving at our house. After hearing several years ago that Native Americans consider this day as a day of mourning, we've really been muted in terms of "celebration".
Just the 4 of us, lots of TV and food. H & I both got the Covid booster AND flu shot yesterday so we're both just sluggish and meh-ish today.
Hopefully, we'll feel better tomorrow. Hope you've all had a good holiday!
BTW, James, up above, it says that the markets will be closed Dec 25, 2021 in observance of Thanksgiving!!! FYI!
