  • Warning if you sell on ebay

If you sell on ebay, or anywhere else online that involves shipping, postage rates have gone up. Make sure you are quoting customers updated prices for shipping so that you don't cheat yourself out of profits.

I had an item sell a couple of days ago that I had listed 3 months ago. I hadn't updated the shipping cost to reflect the new rates. It ended up costing me a couple dollars more than I had quoted.

I always inflated my shipping to make a few extra bucks so I should come out even now on shipping.

I don't really "inflate" my prices but I do round up a bit to help offset the fees since ebay started charging a final value fee on the postage as well as the item price due to sellers abusing that in the past (sell for 99 cents but charge $15 shipping to evade the fees). If something is $3.82 I'll charge $4.00 or maybe $4.25 but that's about it.

Here's an example which sold tonight, shipping $6.99. USPS' shipping would be about $4.75, Ebay's shipping price would be $3.75. The new shipping rate might now be $5.95, so I'm still good. The strip club sells these shirts for $15 where I bought 2, and I wear one. I was intending to wear both but figured on trying to sell one for a profit and it sold. Originally had it listed for $24.95 and allowed offers and had 2 watchers for 1 month but no takers. Subsequently dropped the price to $21.99, then tonight a $19 offer came and I accepted (didn't want to haggle over another $1). Buyer hasn't paid yet so not finalized yet (you know how it goes and sometimes buyers don't pay).
