No it's not ethical to throw items which can be re-purposed into the landfill.

Of course if it is trash, you can take it. And use common sense and wipe the drive multiple times.
There is no reason why this stuff cannot be re-used

There are alot of legalities to things which shouldn't be but it is. Such is life.
Do the right thing, don't trash something to ruin our atmosphere further.
Take it if you can use it for something, anything. Profit if you will. Nothing wrong with that
The rebate cannot be much $$, if at all, versus the health of our bodies and the enviornment.
You are doing the right thing. This is a weird conversation

A large company down the street from us went belly up some years ago.
They tossed out more ewaste than I've seen in a long time
      Huge bins of it.
I know one of the employees took much of it to his house
Re-furbished it and lived off of that $$ re-selling the items for 6-12 months

This is the tragedy of the commons.

I had to re-charge my AC refrigerant only a year after I had already done so, due to a leak in the system. My neighbor found out and chastised me for killing polar bears

the refrigerant nowadays is a lot more environmentally friendly. they banned the old stuff that was killing the ozone.

R12 was phased out in favor of R134.

What does thinning ozone have to do with global warming?

                    TH's posts were sarcasm.

That said, there is some connection between the thinning ozone layer and global warming but it's not a strong relationship.

                    • To be fair, I think the old refrigerant did both actually, and his comment was tongue in cheek.
