    • Rec'd this batch today, 2 rolls of mercury dimes, about $110 worth in each bag. Intend to only clean the blackest and filthiest dimes (too much work to clean everything).

Does it help to soak them in vinegar or dish soap?

        Comment

        • I'm not sure about vinegar but I've tried Dawn soap before and it doesn't help one bit. I just finished soaking these which were the worst black or tarnished ones in acetone and it barely cleaned them. I find the best way to clean it is boiling water w/aluminum foil adding baking soda, then when the water cools scrubbing each one individually with a green scouring pad.

          • This is the results using baking soda, boiling water, and aluminum foil. A lot better than acetone above.

            • Getting ready for my 2024 Roth IRA precious metals max contribution of $8000. Wanted to get platinum but $150 over spot. So instead will get Canadian maple leafs $30 over spot. American gold eagles are $80 over spot. Prices vary widely.

              • Debating on 1 oz platinum $70 over spot or 1 oz gold $30 over spot. Have $8100 to spend in a precious metals Roth IRA ($100 was left over from 2022). Both are IRA approved. So either 8 of the 1 oz platinums or 3 of the 1 oz gold and will add smaller pieces (ie, 10 grams or 20 grams, etc).

                • Just based on transaction premium costs, it seems that gold would be the better option between the two. The platinum is 7.5% above, while gold is only 1.5% above.

                    • Yes kork, I was about to buy three gold 1 oz gold bullions but I didn't buy today because the day's change was +33. I'll wait and if next week if the spot price has a downward trend I might pull the trigger.

                      • My invoice of precious metals purchased today. James, I took your advice where you mentioned once that Johson Matthey is a good brand name so I got three 1 oz gold bullion of those.

                        • $21 each is under spot price of $22.50 now. Placed an order for $300 just now. Free shipping over $99 and no tax, I might have to order more. Just 1 year ago the cheapest were $10 over spot price. Amazing how low prices came down. Click image for larger version
