  • $207,000 car I saw today

I went over to a local mall after dinner tonight just to walk around. It's an upscale mall (Town Center in Boca Raton). At one point, there was a car on display, not terribly unusual in a mall, except this wasn't just any car. It was some new Porsche with a sticker price of $207,300. I texted my wife and said we could sell the Florida house and just buy his and hers Porsches with the proceeds.

I truly don't think I would ever spend that kind of money on a car no matter how rich I was. It just isn't something that I would get that much more enjoyment out of than my 26K Toyota but I've never been a car guy.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

A new Porsche turbo 911 S has an MSRP starting at $207k. If you'd like the convertible top, that will add almost $13,000 to the sticker.

I'm a car guy. Cars mean things to people that other people cannot understand, including other car guys! Money enables automotive retail therapy of many forms... Nostalgia. Ego. Adrenalin. Pleasure. Swagger. And so many other things. It's very much about how a car makes you feel. Sometimes they're not "just" for transportation.

People buy art just as expensive and I do not understand. Some art may be less ethereal and hold value better over time, although there are investment "vehicles" just the same that only seem to gain value. It's just canvas and paint. ...Or steel and rubber.

I could talk all day about cars. I don't own a $200k car...I find most of my car interests are much cheaper. But if I had the money, there is some stuff I'd really enjoy owning!!
    History will judge the complicit.

Hah. I can’t even wrap my head around buying a new car (vs. a “new to us” car), let alone a $200k+ new car. Golf is my most expensive hobby - including a club membership (and when you have a tendency to hit them in the woods and water, the cost of those little white balls adds up ).

When I was younger my stepdad had a Porsche 944 Turbo. No where near worth $200K, but that was a super fun car.

I started getting an itch to buy an Audi R8 convertible when I was raking in a ton of money. Luckily, I had a best friend who bought a new super car every year. Started with AMG, then Porsche, then Lambo, then McLaren and finally a Ferrari 488GTB. He thought he was a car guy, but then figured out that he wasn't. Just couldn't do anything with that kind of power unless you were on a track and he babied them too much to take them to a track. Now his daily is a Ford F-250 pickup.

I'm not downing people who are into cars. We all have our vices. Cars just aren't mine. If I had 200K to blow, I'd rather book the 4-month world cruise Regent just announced. Starts at 74K/person so 200K would cover both of us plus spending money. Depending on how our portfolio performs over the next few years, a circumnavigation cruise has always been at the top of my bucket list.

Those are beautiful and fast, but yeah, I couldn't daily drive a supercar or exotic. Too impractical for everyday use.

My primary vehicle is also a pickup.

Oh i want a lucid air. But that's a pipe dream. I also would like a circumnavigation cruise. And Corn I'd like the african safari though with those shots without kids it'll have to be.
