  • what healthy habits, did you learn from your father?

i learned to eat my veggies, he always believed in having 3 huge gardens every year.. overkill for us.. but, he gave away alot of food to help needy ppl.. only eat lean meat... use the meat as a side dish, or added ingredient, not the main course, (he pressure cooked, crockpoted, made alot of soups).
drink my milk at breakfast and supper. drink water and take a drink in the car.. pack a cooler for the car.... stockpile food and other items for the home.. buy for a year, if i find a great price... buy meat from the meat packing house, not the grocery store.... drink beer and eat nuts, or wine cpl. times a week.. dance, sing, laugh alot, have a good time and enjoy life.. smell, see, sense, observe what is going on around me... we are never alone.. believe in god... be kind to everyone...
when i go somewhere always look for the exit, it could save my life.. (fire, fight)
when i go to an amusement park or store, always veer to the left.. can get on rides easier, most ppl. veer to the right...
keep my mouth shut and let ppl. talk more... only contribute advice cautiously...

I decided to skip the part where Dr. Evil explains his childhood to his counseling group.

My real father was rather stoic, but he was quite the go-getter. There are many aspects about him that I'll likely never match in my lifetime.

I don't feel like I stand in his shadows or anything. However, he is definitely an over-achiever.

I like to think I inherited that sense of determination and drive from him.

If you can't afford it now, don't buy it.

      Turn the lights off.

      Put your seatbelt on.

Finish your drink before you get a new one.

One thing i have learned from my father, as an adult, just by observing him, is how nicely strangers will respond to you when you talk to them. He does this all the time, talking up the waitress (or flirting with them, depending on your point of view), talking to whoever happens to be around.

In my mind my dad is like Hemingway. He's the kind of man that women seem drawn to, even in his 70s. He always was a handsome guy! And men always buddy up to him pretty quickly too, cus he's just a regular guy, no airs, friendly and always up for a laugh and kind word.

Always get the customer service representative's first name.
Always know the exits for the buildings/locations you are at.
When driving, keep enough distance between you and the driver in front of you.
          Always be on time.
Always set aside time for God and for your family.

Prevent an accident before it happens...

And a lot of 'don't do as he did'

To be independent never depend on anyone to support you. I think I got my sales talents from my dad too no doubt!! My dad was a used car salesmen & a very good one at that. He once had a old lady who her & her DH had bought a car from like a year before call him crying about her husband dying & hooked her up with my grandma who was also a recent widow same lady came to my dads funreal 7yrs ago & my grandmas who just passed away recently so it ended up being a very long lasting friendship So my dad had a great heart & the most honest person you ever met!! I am the same way I couldnt lie to save my life I have a consious!! And my dad didnt believe in credit either & I really dont either the only debt we ever got in was because of my husband which could have been much worse if I hadnt put my foot down & straightened his messes up.

I learned to be a hard worker my dad was the most hard working person I know & I think I am at least a little bit like that. I learned alot about cars just from being around him I have had men who work for my brother tell me I know more about cars than them my dad never really sat me down & said here this is what you do I just picked it up being around it my whole life.

Re: what healthy habits, did you learn from your father?

When my father ditched my mom he took everything with him and didn't send any support. Mom couldn't afford to feed us anything other than pasta for months on end. I have to give kudos to the old man for being such a jerk, because as a result none of us kids will ever be that horrible to our spouses and children.

So... I have to thank Dad for teaching me (albeit in a backwards way) to share my life and my money with everyone.

don't spend your money all in one place.... save for a rainy day... treat others the way you want to be treated... always be proud of who you are.... hold your head up high..... don't interfere in other ppls. problems, let them work it out...

Re: what healthy habits, did you learn from your father?

I learned not to drink to excess from my biological father. He is an alcoholic and has been for over 35 years. He also taught me that if you don't show up for work you don't get paid. Also if you borrow money from friends and don't pay it back they won't be your friends again.
From my step father I learnt that smoking is for losers. (he smokes) and that if you are childish and selfish you will lead a very lonely existence ( he is both)

Work hard.........that had to be the healthiest thing he taught, and moderation in all things.
He never smoked, rarely drank anything but a glass of his homemade wine on Italian night at home.
Walked to work for most of his life

                        Don't remember him being sick.

My Father died of lung cancer at 68 years old. I quit smoking a few years ago.
My Father's liver was failing while in the hos. with cancer. I limit my drinking to wine and not very often.
My Father didn't hug his children a lot. I hug my daugther at least once a day and tell her I love her.
My Father loved cadilacs even when there was no money. I have my stuff paid for.
My Father loved the bar room. I don't go into bar rooms.
All that said, I loved him greatly. He was a stuborn man but chilled out a lot, later in his life. We were good friends but I make a point not to be like him.

When camping pack a ziplock bag full of dryer lint. When you go to start your campfire throw just a little bit on your kindleing and light it. It is very flamable and makes a perfect firestarter.

                              eat breakfast EVERY day
                              always eat a balanced meal
drive with all 5 senses - be aware of the other drivers
                              dance a lot
                              educate yourself
the Family stays together (support each other in times of need)
THINK before you act (..this one somehow didn't stick as well!)
NEVER, EVER call in sick....unless you ARE sick!
                              be on time
                              God has many names
