  • No Cost AD&D Insurance

I have received multiple offers for FREE $1,000 AD&D coverage. The offer I have sitting on my desk is from one of the banks I do business with. Of course there is a signup process that includes the ability to buy more coverage at a group rate.

Just curious if anyone here accepts the free coverage? Just doesn't seem worthwhile to me.

It's not quite worthless, but close.

If I am paying $600 a year for $1.5 million in insurance that pays upon my demise whether or not it is an accident, that's a little over 40 cents per year per $ thousand of coverage. So the policy they are offering you is worth about 1 cent per day. I'm sure they can afford it.

These "free coverage" deals are given to you with hopes that you will actually buy more insurance.

Ya, I do why not? It doesn't cost me anything and all I had to do with send in the prestamped envelope with the little box checked that said that I wanted the coverage. Easy peasy. Sure they'll send me other mailings ask if I want additional coverage for more $$, but I just throw those in the trash. If I have an accident and my family can earn a little money, why not?

Hopefully you are properly insured so that your family doesn't have to worry about earning a little money.

It is truly amazing to me how many people don't buy life insurance when they have a family totally dependent on them and their income.

We do have adequate life insurance thru work and outside of it. But really why not sign up for a free policy?

I've signed up for the free coverage in the past, though I know darn well that I'd forget all about it and my wife wouldn't have a clue it existed if I died. So she'd just have to console herself with the $1.5 million she'd collect from my life insurance and hopefully that would suffice without the extra $1,000 from the bank.

My DW thinks I should fill it out and send it in. I think she is planning something.

As long as she makes it look accidental.
