I'm super introverted, and that's one of the reasons I work from home. That said, to be successful working from home, you have to be stellar at what you do, and pretty driven. Not one of my clients would put up with missed deadlines or the inability to listen to them and do what is requested. So that's a tough one.
You know though, one of my relatives sounds a lot like your friend, and he found his solution in driving semi trucks long haul. He doesn't really have to interact with anyone often and just has to get the truck to X location by X time, so not too many directions to follow. Is that something that might interest him?
