Is this from slots, poker, or something else?

    • I recently posted in another thread about the Freebie Alerts app. Since getting it, I've gotten a free IKEA lamp which I will resell and tomorrow I'm picking up 3 bags of quilting fabric for my wife.

Not free, but today I got a mini freezer for $100 off Marketplace. My mom's died the other day so I was shopping for a replacement. New ones start at $399.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

        • I forgot another freebie. I got the complete set of course materials for Dave Ramsay’s Financial Peace University. The book, CDs, DVDs, workbook, progress chart, etc. I’ve already got that listed for sale.

My apologies I just noticed this question, it was from video poker on a .25 cents machines getting a royal flush which paid 4000 quarters.

I don't know what you plan on doing with all that dough, but I would either bank it in savings, retirement, or pay off some debt. But, I would also keep a small portion and buy something for myself. Congrats!

              • This one is for my daughter, though in some ways a win for her is a win for us too.

Her 90-day review at her new job was supposed to be last Monday. The Thursday before, she asked the boss if he wanted to schedule a time for it and he said "Let's just do it today". She was all prepped with a list of her accomplishments, ready to push for higher pay, but it turned out not to be necessary. They told her how impressed they were with her work and offered her a promotion that came with a pay increase larger than what she was going to ask for. She took the day to think about it just so she didn't make a hasty decision as it's not all about money, but then accepted it at the end of the day. Not only that, but when she got her paycheck, she discovered that they backdated the raise to the beginning of that week. She didn't expect it to kick in until the following week.

It made her feel really good to know her work and her efforts are appreciated and valued. And of course the bump in pay is nice too. They had hired her at minimum wage which sucked but told her they'd reevaluate at 90 days and they were true to their word so at least she's getting a decent rate now and hopefully there's more room to grow from there.

I used it to buy a new Samsung galaxy S22 plus for $900 which I'm regretting but I'll sell it and maybe get half back and get a new iPhone 14 plus for $899.

                    • I don't have a story like that yet, but I think I will. Considering that I want to invest in stocks without understanding how they work.

                        • I found a quarter, a nickle and a penny on my walk to work today. That was a nice little bonus. I think its gonna be a good week.

                          • After 3 years my mom finally made the top of the waitlist for county-provided services. She has been set up with a fall monitor and is now receiving 5 hours per week in-home assistance. These services are free to her. The in-home assistant will be doing some of the things my brother and I have been doing, leaving us some time to focus on other things. For me, that will mean more decluttering.

3 years on the waitlist. Think about that. If she hadn't had family to push for her just getting on the list (me) and perform essential tasks for her (my brother and me) what would have happened to her? I think she'd likely be dead, or maybe in a nursing home.

                            • This is in the ‘when life gives you lemons’ category. We were supposed to go to Florida yesterday to attend a 2-day convention and fundraising event. That got cancelled by hurricane Ian. So instead we headed north. Spent today exploring Bear Mountain State Park in New York State. We spent some time on the Appalachian Trail, visiting a zoo there, having lunch, and then going up to the high point of the park where there are great views and an observation tower.

And last night we met friends for dinner. We met them through our Disney group but they live in the Hudson Valley area about an hour from where we’re staying.

                              • My win of the week is that after three weeks of being without a car after my car accident, I managed to buy a used car and not incur any debt. Part of the funds came from the insurance payout on the wrecked car and part of it from savings.
