  • I debated sharing this win because it’s currently unrealized but it put a little pep in my step on Friday.

I had my year end review and it went amazingly well. I unexpectedly received a $53k LTI that vests quarterly over 4 years. It feels a bit like a $13k/year raise completely out of the blue.

      • We're not great about comparison shopping and taking advantage of sales but we're trying to get better.

I went to our not-regular supermarket yesterday to buy a few items that were on sale. I saved $24.57 over what we would normally pay for those items. They all happened to be non-perishable things that we use regularly so I stocked up. Saving $25 was certainly worth my time. As a little bonus, I was also able to pick up a couple of other items that our regular store doesn't carry.

        • Well, here is a very, very, very small win. I found three cents on the way to work today. Its not much, but I'm celebrating that small win - pennies add up over time.

          • A coworker at our Christmas party won a $200 Southwest gift card but he doesn't fly. So he asked me if I wanted to buy it for $100, I said sure I'll buy it. With all the COVID hassles about flying though and not seeing any end in sight, I decided to sell it auction style on eBay and listed it for $99 starting bid. The auction ended today at this price.

I encountered this in MD last month. What a pain. However, it worked out in my favor ultimately. I didn't know the machines weren't dispensing coins, so when the first machine didn't, I figured it was just out. I went to try another and someone had left a coin voucher there. I guess they didn't want to bother with it. I took that one and tried again. Still no coins. I wandered around and found another machine and another abandoned voucher. Finally went to the cashier and redeemed them all. I made an extra 50 or 60 cents. Woo hoo.

                    • By law those tickets belongs to the casinos and they could get you on theft but would be wasting everyone’s time for .60 cents.

                      • DS the easier route for the casinos would be to lock your players acct. True story a once couldn’t access his funds in his player’s. After getting to the bottom of things the casino told the guy he stole .17 cents in those tickets so they locked his dining credits worth $100’s. I don’t take those tickets and I leave it alone, not worth it.

                        • Yeah I suspected as much. I’m sure if someone hung out all day collecting those tickets security would deal with that. They probably don’t usually bother with the one off person cashing one they find discarded. By default they’re all for less than a dollar. It would be like grabbing someone for picking up a quarter on the floor.

                          • My annual compensation discussion with my manager went very well today. Salary increase, cash bonus, and company equity award were all substantial. It feels good to be valued.

                            • We found a little sofa at a charitable thrift store and a pretty rug on sale at Costco.

DH bought 2 pieces of exercise equipment through FB Marketplace. He just needs to find some free weights and flooring (may need to pay retail for those) and our home gym setup will be complete!

DH went to an estate sale where he bought a metal filing cabinet, office chair, and mirror.

Slowly but surely our new house is getting furnished in a fairly budget-friendly way.
