  • Mock Jury trial

I got invited for 1 day mock trial. Pays $125 all day from 8:30 to 5 PM Saturday...curious if anybody here has attended one, what was like, or your experience?

I've never heard of that. Who runs those? And for what purpose?

I wouldn't go, personally, because that rate wouldn't be worth it to me, but it's a nice bonus if you don't mind giving up the day.

No detail except the location (law school) with a parking pass.

I'm still debating whether I should go or not. I'm leaning not too though, its all day. But I've always been curious since I never experience being in a jury trial.

Oh, law school. That makes sense. I guess they do it to train the law students. That's cool.

Sounds like fun if it doesn't cost you a lot in lost wages or a day of PTO. You could assume the role of "fry him" and antagonize everyone.

Yeah, but if you do that, you might just provide the opportunity for them to learn how to screen out uncooperative jerks. Last time I had jury duty there was a charmer of a guy with an entertaining, jovial, even clever, outspoken personality. Mostly quite likable, but he was so "on" all the time that I found him a bit obnoxious. His reaction when he was not chosen for the jury was weird. Kind of revealed how he seemed to think the world should revolve around him. What with many others to choose from, the lawyers were wise to eliminate him, I thought.

(Oh dear, must be about time for jury duty again. It's been 25 months.)

Let us know what it was like if you do this, tripod.)

Sorry to hear it. I was going to say "go for it!" as much for the experience as for the money.

I'd say the same. The "reward" money would be nice, but I think it would be an interesting experience. And hey, it's helping the next generation of liars--I mean "lawyers"...--to learn the ropes! I did some mock trial stuff in middle school, and I thought it was fun. I imagine that as a volunteer, you'd probably be asked to be either a juror or a witness (coached with some scripted facts & opinions).

Unfortunate that you won't be able to participate!
