Stores and restaurants re-closing due to COVID

All the summer fairs, fireworks displays, food festivals, gun bashes, rodeos, and etc are cancelled all around where I live.

Same here. Pretty much everything that attracts large gatherings of people. It's going to be a very quiet summer. And I'm not sure that we are going to do much of anything including the places that have or are about to reopen. We might take a ride to the Jersey shore tomorrow for a few hours just to walk around, grab a slice of pizza or something for lunch, and head home. The arcades haven't reopened yet as far as I know so we can't do that, which we usually would while we're there.

If the LA area is experiencing a spike in COVID cases, reopening Disneyland on 7/17 might be premature, but it's probably a little too soon to know.

And now we have the answer. Disney announced today that Disneyland will NOT be reopening on 7/17 as previously announced. The state won't issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4 which doesn't give them enough time to call back employees and get everything ready for a 7/17 reopening so they've scrapped that date. They won't have a new reopening date until they've received that guidance from the state.

So it's still called a buffet but it is all table service. Definitely changes the experience but at least you can still do it.

And many of the companies - most probably - were in deep trouble before COVID hit. CEC was definitely one of them. Same for JCPenney and others. COVID just accelerated the timeline of what was going to happen anyway.

Disneyland came on the news in Los Angeles. Closed indefinitely. A union spokesperson said Disneyland did not propose a safety plan for its workers and the workers do not feel safe hence the union stepped in to take action. In addition (my opinion) the workers are probably getting unemployment (UI) which possibly pays more than working so the health risk and financial gains of UI more than outweigh the opportunity to remain on UI. Disneyland is also recreating the Splash Mountain ride which has images of the black princess Tiana(?) and the frog. It has themes and songs that the news said has tones of slavery. Usually the news only allocates a few seconds on Disneyland but today did a whole piece on Disneyland.

Los Angeles case rising again. Mayor Garcetti on the news today said no dine-in restaurant service for 3 weeks but okay to take out, delivery, dine outside, drive thru, or curbside pick up. Also, new color system implemented. Currently orange (medium), red (high), green (low). Only go out for essential services. Doom & gloom all over again. Also, beaches closed July 3 thru July 6.

Also not wearing a mask will result in a $300 fine.

Pretty much. The problem is many places reopened too soon. And when things reopened, people took that to mean that the risk was over and they could resume normal behavior, neither of which were true. Reopening was done for political and economic reasons, not scientific reasons, and that continues to be the case. The same with mask mandates.

Until officials and people in general start paying attention to the science, this is just going to keep getting worse. Other countries have listened and are doing far better, but Americans like to scream about personal freedom and that nobody can tell them what to do, so here we are.
