The trading floor of the NYSE reopened today after being closed due to COVID. My question is why? Clearly the stock market has continued to function just fine with the traders not physically present. What actual purpose, if any, does their presence serve?

Why did the NYSE trading floor need to reopen?

Another point is just that the NYSE has a very peculiar sub-culture within it. Its own language of signs/gestures, shorthand statements, and traditions. They, just as most entrenched groups, resist change mightily and want to get things back to what they know.

Many of these sites were closed due to the pandemic because the bidding was simply impossible. Even the most experienced traders like my father just lost money. He is a true professional. He studied at the Higher School of Economics and he has been trading for more than 7 years, and during this time he has encountered all possible obstacles. Even he eventually realized that now it is best not to take risks and not respond to the strange opening of exchanges. I used this gap for training. I really like this business and now I can say that I know the basics of trading and all thanks to my father’s knowledge and a very useful site with information for newcomers and tips. It really helped me and soon I will start my first bid.Last edited by AlexanderOgden; 06-15-2020, 10:12 PM.
