  • Thank you Saving Advice forums!

I started reading on this forum 5 years ago when I got my first job after college. I've learned a lot on this forum especially managing my finances and saving. I don't post a lot but I read a lot. I also read few books and sometimes watch or listen to shows relating to finance ex. dave ramsey radio show.

I am originally from Asia and I moved in Los Angeles without any money, just my degree in computer science. Fast forward to now, I am now 25 years old and I just graduated from my master's degree. I started from bottom earning close to minimum and now have a lot of experience after several jobs and now earning $105,000/year. I also was able to petition my long time girlfriend to come here in America (which is now my wife) and she is now working as a graphic designer for $30,000/year.

I had two major debts which is a brand new car for $25,000 (current car value is $15,000) and graduate student loan for $15,000 but both PAID OFF. Yes, I am now debt free!

We were able to save $15,000 for our emergency fund and now contributing to IRAs (we have $20,000 currently). We are now living in a nice apartment and was able to buy and fully furnished our place.

I won't be in this position without the help of this forum. I know I am still young and I am just starting and I want to achieve more. Our next goal is to buy a house here in Los Angeles after 3-5 years.

My specialty is website and web application development so If there is anything I could do to help (website, server/hosting, design) etc. It will be my pleasure to give back.

    Thank you.

Great story Leo. I can sense your appreciation for all the knowledge that you've gained from this website. Continue on your current path and you'll grow exponentially. It takes a lot of self discipline and self restraint to live within ones means and when you learn not to spend more than what you bring in, builds a solid nest egg that begins to develop on a solid foundation to see your savings grow. I'm drunk posting so sorry if this post isn't making sense. And I'm currently in Las Vegas so my train of thought is not exactly on course (lol). There are too much external stimuli going on and around me to try to make sense (lol).
