We have stickers and a chart we use with our kids. Daily we go over the magnets which they call "stickers". If they pick up their room, brush teeth, don't fight, act respectful, etc. they get stickers. Bad behavior and stickers are taken away.
Every two weeks they can earn up to $3. They are 2 and 4. We just started doing this system this year with the kids. So far they love it!

Very interesting. My 6-yr old is currently on a "star" system (started when he was 4). He earns stars and redeem them for highly preferred activities that we want to limit. I'm planning to transition to USD.
What can your kids do with the money?
E.g. do you take them to the candy store?
I don't think I use it as a reward, but my parents and sisters say differently. Our 11 year old gets $25 a month deposited into her online savings automatically. I have RA, so she does more chores than a normal kid her age would. I guess that is a reward but she knows the money is for future use, like a car when she gets a job, or towards a down payment on a house. My family can't believe we do that. I don't see the big deal. We don't give money for good grades or behavior, but we will pay for extras like fencing or horse riding lessons if she keeps the grades up and doesn't act like a brat. She gets her spending money from birthdays and babysitting.
I think I use money as a punishment more than a reward. I make her pay when she used up our data plan on my cell phone. I made her pay for the $100 gym shoes she insisted on having and then decided a few days later that they weren't comfortable. She also has to pay when she wants something more than what I am willing to buy. She needed shoes, but she wanted this hideous basketball shoes that all the kids had. I was only willing to pay for half. I'm willing to buy a DVD just because, but she pays the difference when she wants the super deluxe collector's edition.
