  • Tankless Water Heaters: Good or Bad??

Are tankless water heaters worth the extra cost?

I'm thinking that it's getting close to having to replace my water heater and I was thinking of going tankless. I saw that there's the possibility of a tax credit for getting one.

I'm just curious about the efficiency and the quality of these water heaters. Any opinions or comments would be great. Thanks.

we installed one when we re did my moms house. there is something about always having hot wter and not worrying about running the propane or running out on those crazy days. her propane bill dropped about 42% over a year period. while the cost was several hndred dollars more for the unit the ease, convenience and not worrying about the propane has made it much better. there is also no wasted water waiting for the water to get hot. the water can be very hot, and can scald you so pay attention to the thermometer on the side and use the locking mechanism so it cant be accidentally moved to make it to hot.

i plan to put one in my future home i loved it so much.

there are several sizes: whole house that works for up to 1200 or so square feet or you can install the "room" size which would be perfect for an individual bathroom. her house is tiny and the whole house is perfect. in my current rental we have one whole house and two smaller ones for the bathrooms. the whole house takes care of the kitchen, laundry, and two other bathrooms. with renters it is nice not having to wait for hot water. that is another plus, if busy house hold always hot water.

just do your research and compare the features in these models to a standard water heater.

We have had a tankless water heater for nearly 5 years and would never go back. When we bought our house there was one already here. Last year it died and we looked at getting a "normal" tank system but there wasn't much difference in the price. There is however a huge difference in the cost and convience. Tankless systems are much better. It does take a while to get used to it though.

I so want a tankless!! When we needed a new one several years ago, they were brand new and were totally out of our budget at that point. When this one dies, we are so getting a tankless!

We had one installed at our church building. It was a good decision. If I were building or replacing I'd certainly strongly consider getting one for my house.
