Thank you for writing about your experience. I'm delighted that there are still honest people, we so rarely see these positive outlines.

Although it's nice to have the money ($1,331.00), I truly looked for and hoped the owner would claim it. It was pretty obvious that the person had placed the money on the roof of their car while getting in and drove off. I simply found it lying in the middle of the street.

Looked like it was the days receipts from a small business based on the different bills and amount. Pretty obvious that it wasn't drug money or stolen from a bank or anything.

Sadly, I think the person that lost it just assumed no one would ever turn in money like that so never inquired about it. Surprising how many people told me that would have just kept it.

I'm not surprised. The problem with cash is it is impossible to trace it. If I found a wallet, I wouldn't think of keeping it. I'd use whatever clues it contained to locate the owner. About a year ago, I found a debit card. I googled the person's name, looked for them on Facebook and Twitter, and found their account on LinkedIn and sent them a message. I also contacted the issuing bank. All to no avail and eventually I just destroyed the card but only after a solid effort to return it.

With cash, though, there's not much to do. You can't identify the owner.

I'd have turned it into the police. I have personally lost 3 wallets. It's been mailed back to me all three times. NO cash but I was thrilled to get it back.

I found a coupon holder with cash and coupons. I turned it into the grocery store and heard the woman came back crying. I was so happy it worked out. I'd have turned it into the police too. Good karma I need lots of it with my luck.

If it is a large amount, the owner will probably come looking for it. I'd turn it in to police and tell the stores near by in case the owner comes back.

The funny thing is, I'd just pocket small amounts of money figuring it's not worth my time and the owner probably would just write it off; but I now wonder what I consider small amounts may not be small to its owner.

Every now and then I read news about people finding large amounts of money and was able to reunite it with owner; and really helped out the owner. Why keep money that isn't yours?
