Ok so I live overseas not in the US and many friends and family over are asking what payment we are getting from over there....really didn't know we were...not really sure we are and not banking on it...but some say will be based on our taxes that we file each year and some say it will be based on social security that my hubby gets....we have no idea if we are suppose to get it but how do we find out what we are suppose to be paid if we do get it I don't want to end up owing money over there because they overpaid us etc...also our SS get put straight into our bank acct here our taxes even though we put our acct number & routing number on it they always send a check...its usually a 3 month ordeal of them sending the check..us getting it putting it in the bank..waiting for it to clear (usually a month) its a hassle...we haven't filed them this year yet as we are waiting on my new itin number which is taking forever....so anyone that could clarify or point me in the wrong direction for this info I would greatly appreciate it

I don't know all of the details, but in very general terms, if you file US income taxes, it should be based upon your AGI as filed (either 2018 or 2019, whichever is most current). If your AGI is below $150k (married filing joint), you should receive $1200 per adult. I'm presuming you don't have any kids, but folks will also receive $500 per dependent child. If you normally get your tax refund direct deposited into your checking account, they should just send the money to the same place. For some folks who don't file taxes (such as low-income folks only receiving SS), they may deposit the money into the account that the SS is sent to.
Obviously, that doesn't take into account the expat status thing... Honestly unsure if that's a factor or not...

ok so i found this so I don't think have to worry about anything so we won't have to worry about a debt
If you are an American and file taxes jointly with a spouse who does not have a Social Security number, you also are disqualified, Watson said.

Are we out of luck? Will wr receive a paper check?

Ok to clarify, this is a joint account with a minor (it was our account initially and she was added making it a minor savings account) and not an UGMA. And, It was OUR money transferred to the account to pay the taxes *and* there's record of this transfer but thanks for the heads up.

I am actually glad you brought this up. We shouldn't actually have done this - I was too paranoid to give direct access to our savings account but shouldn't have given a joint account with a minor out, either. Well, you live & you learn
