  • Pets Insurance Pro vs Con

We've had dogs for couple of years now. We don't have pets insurance. We are wondering if we should buy it or it is simply a waste of $$ since we have EF?

Our dogs have never been sick (knock on woods!) We do take them regular groomers. They are up-to-date with shots. Next month we're taking them both for teeth cleaning going to cost over $1000.

I have Embrace Pet Insurance for my great dane. I pay $337 per year. I got in early (he was 6 months old when rescued in 2012) so no pre-existing conditions. I've never used it.

Like all insurance there are different coverages you can select. I went more along the lines of "catastrophic" coverage - broken bone, bloat, etc instead of routine coverage.

An EF can take the place of the insurance if you want it to.

I went online for pet insurance quotes...for two dogs cost $134 a month. Its more that we expected. We might just pay out of pocket cost as usual.

I remember reading about this in Consumer Reports. They said it's worth it only if you start when they are a puppy or the dog's breed has a history of needing expensive care.

boy, they really nail you on dental care, I'm putting a cap on how old of a dog I will do it on. An old dog died a month after going under anesthesia for his teeth, riddled with cancer. That was missed the cancer at his physical but they sure caught the plaque on his teeth. They actually told me he would live longer if I had it done. I switched vets after that.

          Pet Insurance Worth Paying

If you buy lifetime pet cover with all features including vet bills, it will be worth paying.

In my experience, cheap cover give minimal ROI compare to comprehensive one. If you have multiple pets then buying pet insurance from the same supplier is advisable.
