Apparently, they are still going to pay them their contracts out, which was nice. This was worldwide I believe, not just the US...or wherever disney has parks.
Disney employs an army of subcontractors, people who aren't direct Disney employees but do all of their work for Disney. So your friend might fall into that group. I have a friend who is a video producer for a production company with Disney in that sort of capacity.

      • So, now I am hearing that Portland, Oregon is shopping around a shelter in place order.

From the local weekly Willamette Week:
The city of Portland is considering a shelter-in-place policy, similar to the policy that counties in northern California imposed on 7 million people in the Bay Area on March 16.
Portland's policy, developed by Mayor Ted Wheeler's office, is currently in draft form. It's about 10 pages long, but the effect of it would be to order all Portland residents to stay in their homes, except for trips to work for those workers deemed essential; trips to grocery stores or medical facilities; or exercise, provided people maintain six feet of distance between themselves and others. (Homeless residents would be exempted but urged to seek government resources to prevent them from getting ill.)
        Source here.

The only thing is there aren't very many police in Portland, so I'm wondering how this might be enforced?

        • We own two businesses that have been basically shut down. We have a restaurant in Ohio, which was the first state to close them and then we own a school and sports photography business, which no schools are in session and sports are cancelled. I just feel awful for our employees.

          • I’ve heard from a few people who are using the down time to do deep cleaning and renovations and getting their employees to do the work so they’re still getting paid. My wife texted with her trainer today and they are all repainting the gym while it’s closed for example.

            • Pennsylvania just announced all non essential businesses to close.
My company is exempt for now, so I am still working.

Hasn’t happened in NJ yet but just a matter of time. Won’t affect me or my job either way. We’re exempt.

All non life essential businesses. A lot of places are going dark now.

                    • Co-worker friend has a brewery side business. He said it's not going to survive, as it doesn't sound like he's going to get any discounts from landlord, utilities, and has SBA loan. He'll be fine, but I'm pretty sure this was the other co-owner's main source of income.

Many, many small businesses (and some large ones) will fail in the coming months. You can't be shut down for weeks with little to no income and come out unscathed.

Yep, just unfortunate to hear any of these local businesses start dropping and the ripple effect going forward.

                          • Well, our state (California) is under "shelter at home" until further notice. It's very surreal to come home to this. But I am sure we will all get through this one way or another.

I will be having a phone conversation with my boss later today and I expect to learn what our plan is for working. I am a county employee, deemed non-essential, but do perform some tasks deemed essential. Our county's website says that non-essential employees are not to come to work until April 16th. So, I don't know if I am working or not at this point. I will be paid either way.

My SO recently started working for the census. He had two weeks of training, one week of actual work, and now is not to work for the next 2 weeks. He will be paid anyway.

                            • I'm in Ohio, our Governor just issued a stay at home order to start tomorrow March 23rd at Midnight. I've already been working at home the past week so it's more of the same for me.

Everyday I go up and walk on our high school track and there are so many kids and adults there. Mostly lacrosse and baseball teams on the field. I'm afraid our high school will lock the track up and I won't be able to walk because these fools can't abide by the social distancing order! I need to walk on that squishy track or my feet hurt.

They probably will end up doing that if people keep it up. So many people are hitting the beaches in our state (now that people unemployed and don't know what to do) is the cops are enforcing beach and park closures.
