How long is your commute to work?

When we lived in Seattle, my commute was 42 miles one way, or about an hour. Hour and a half on bad days. The commute really started to wear thin as it was 5 days/week and no possibility of working from home.

New commute is 19 miles one way, or about 28 minutes on a good day (not-winter seasons). But now we're in snow country and I didn't realize that just like in rain country, nobody knows how to drive in the rain. Snow country people don't know how to drive in the snow, and so this morning's commute was over an hour.

Yeah, you'd think that folks who are snow-bound for half (or more) of the year would know how to drive in snow.... NOPE, not so much. I've never seen so many driving accidents caused by driving foolishly on snowy/icy roads as I have up in Alaska. It's literally almost daily, occasionally 3-4/day.

1 hour 10 min each way. Miles is irrelevant because I take public transportation. The drive would be less time, but DC traffic is a hellish nightmare and I get a work stipend that covers my metro costs, whereas if I drove, gas would be on me and parking on base would be a crap shoot as I'd likely get in too late to use the garage by my building and would have to park in one further away (making the commute time savings even less).

I hate the long commute, but I work 9 days every 2 weeks instead of 10, and 2 of those days I usually get to work from home, so I'm really only doing the commute 6 days every 2 weeks.

I gotta say, I didnt love DC but I didnt mind metro (for the most part.) I used to take it from rockville to bethesda each day, which is a short commute. Much better than driving. I heard they want to increase prices again. Its not cheap depending on distance you need to go.

I'm jealous of these commutes!

I live 16 miles from Boston and work in the city. My commute without any traffic is ~25min, maybe 30-35min into my office since I have to park in a garage and walk 1 block. With non-heavy traffic (so let's say leaving my house ~10am on workdays) my door to door is an hour. At the peak of traffic it's 90minutes, and it has been as long as 2 hours.

I can adjust my schedule to stay out of the worst of it most of the time, but even the 1 hour door-to-door is pretty brutal.

I can't complain with new commute is now 6 minutes to work (under 4 miles). This spring/summer I may look into getting a bicycle again.

Hawthorne, CA to Long Beach, CA, 16 miles public sector. 18 years ago when I first moved here Hawthorne, CA to Fullerton, CA 40 miles to Hope International University. Dreaded that drive.

1.6 miles. I walk it. It takes about a half an hour. I like it because if I hoof it every day its a totally free way to burn calories.
