Anyone care to admit to re-gifting? My SIL always gives me things I never use (ie, new cheap Casio watch every Christmas, new jacket sometime with a gift receipt attached sometimes not, and canned goods, LOL yes canned goods such as Vienna sausage, tuna, spam, etc). I've sold the new cheap Casio watches (~5 over the years) all on eBay or Craigslist. The new jackets I would return to Sears or Macy's if the tag and gift receipts were attached or I might re-gift it or just donate it to Salvation Army. I don't eat Vienna sausage so I would donate to food drives or just dump it. And the fruit cakes this time of year. I would bring the new unopened fruit cake to work and sometimes the workers would take a piece, other times not so much. Anyone care to share your re-gifting stories?

We had awful gifts from family so early on we convinced them it would be just OK if we just bought items for children only.
Your descriptions of items reminded me of the same items every year etc.
So many items I could not even guess where they might have bought them. One year an XL sweater when my DH was a medium but the hole for your head was so small only a child could get it over their head.... One year we stopped by a donation box on the way home.

We've regifted many items. If we don't want it or won't use it but we know someone who would appreciate it, why not pass it along?
When I was in private practice, we used to get a lot of gifts at the office, especially gift baskets. Sometimes I would regift some of those items if we didn't want them. I probably regifted an entire basket once or twice.Steve

* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of gifts she receives from her patients from cookies, cakes, gift cards to restaurants, etc. She often re-gifts to me some good stuff that she doesn't want or need. I'm eating some good butter short bread cookies from her as I write this.Steve

As for re gifting...I dont recall a time when we did, but I wouldnt be opposed to it.

We make regifting a sport.
Okay, not that bad, but my wife tends to win a shocking number of competitions/raffles/giveaways. And of course, sometimes we just get given stuff that we don't want or need. So anything that we can't use, we look to regift items whenever it fits the occasion.
For example: My youngest brother is graduating college as a pilot this month (hooray!! He'll actually gonna make something of himself!! lol), and it's our turn this year to give to him for Christmas (both of our families rotate gift recipients to minimize the excessive gift-giving). He's asking mostly for household items for establishing himself after college, so in part, we're regifting to him a Vitamix blender that my wife won from a drawing at a gym's fitness event a couple months ago. I may also give him some other kitchen items that we've still never opened from their boxes since we received them at our wedding (6 years ago).Last edited by kork13; 12-12-2019, 07:04 AM.
