  • How much automobile insurance coverage do you have?

California law requires a minimum $5000 property damage and $15,000 bodily injury damage.

I have 6-month coverage at $100,000 property damage for $191 and $100,000 per person/$300,000 per occurrence bodily injury for $248, collision/comprehensive $500 deductible. Rejected uninsured/underinsured motorist. The state minimum property damage at $5000 is ridiculously low as well as the minimum $15,000 bodily injury.

I carry 250k(each person)/500k(each accident) on bodily, property damage and uninsured motorist. Also have rental car reimbursement. I pay $496/6 mo. Getting ready to consolidate all my policies. Am I over insured?? Curious why you waive under/un insured motorist coverage.

I don't have my numbers in front of me but just wanted to point out that posting how much you pay is really irrelevant as costs vary wildly from location to location. They also depend on your driving record and what vehicles you are insuring. When we moved from PA to NJ, about 12 miles or so, our rates dropped by 50% even though nothing else had changed.

Good question riverwed, now you got me worried and I’m second guessing myself and need to revisit it. BTW you have good coverages also. In Los Angeles I pay twice as much when living in Hawaii. New York must be insane judging by the way New Yorkers drive.

BTW riverwed whether you too much coverage is your call. I’m thinking of bumping mines to your levels since I can handle the extra costs. But if I had to struggle to pay it I would drop it down to whatever is comfortable for me.

I always struggle with when to drop full coverage to liability. My car is 12 years old and worth probably $7k. Would it be nice to have that money if I got in an accident and it were totaled? Definitely. Could I replace my car without it? Also yes. I mean if I hang on to it another 5 years, I will have paid nearly the value of the car in premiums over that that time! I will probably always keep the medical at $250/500. I don't really know the pros and cons of uninsured motorist and whether it's worth it.

As for me I don't know the pros & cons of uninsured/underinsured motorist but you gave a good idea to add it onto my policy. I'm looking to cover myself with more insurances while I'm alive and not dead and uninsured/underinsured fits the bill perfectly for me, as long as I don't get killed by an uninsured/underinsured motorist.

the highest i can. We have terrible driving records so 6 months costs me $2k for 2 drivers and 2 cars. So I am paying about $400/month.

I'm going to have to look, as I honestly don't know.
I would assume that I have at least the minimum amount required by PA law.
                        I'll have to check

Bodily Injury Liability 50k per person/100k per occurrence Property Damage Liability 50k I had a very high coverage before (500k/1mil BIL and 100k property) but I felt like I was overinsured so I just changed it recently. Is that low in California?

$50,000 is low in California. Medical payments to if at fault could easily top $500,000, Or rear end a Tesla $50,000 would cover half, The other $50.000 would be the responsibility of the at-fault driver.
