We are once again in election campaign season (did it ever really end?). As tends to happen, political comments and discussion have started to pop up. I'm not pointing fingers at all because I've been guilty of it myself but we need to reign it in.
It is perfectly acceptable to discuss government issues and policies as they apply to financial and economic topics. There's no denying that the government has a huge hand in so much of what happens to our money. And as candidates come along and float economic policy proposals, that's certainly something that we are open to discussing on a site dedicated to personal finance.
WE CAN NOT, HOWEVER, DISCUSS POLITICS!
What does that mean? If you want to discuss or debate the pros and cons of a current or proposed policy, like Universal Basic Income or Medicare For All, go right ahead. Focus on the financial aspects of things.
DO NOT focus on the individual politician or party behind the policy.
DO NOT insult or criticize other posters based on your or their political affiliations.
It's nearly impossible to have a financial forum and never touch on politically-charged topics.
BOTTOM LINE: WE CAN DISCUSS POLICY BUT NOT POLITICS!
Please keep that in mind going forward. The moderators will do our best to enforce this. If you see posts that you feel violate this, please report them by clicking on "Flag" at the bottom of the post. To keep things simple, we will start as of today, October 17th, 2019. We're not going to go back and clean up a bunch of old posts. We're just going to make this our policy going forward.
