  • Unexpected Pleasant Surprise in the Mail

Just got a check for $2300 from the US Treasury. Apparently we had overpaid taxes on quarterly's last year.
Probably going to have to do something fun with this money

Was it actually a surprise? Did you not know you had overpaid your taxes?

I'm just having visions of Monopoly's Mr. Moneybags... "Tax refund, collect $200"

That’s funny. We had a similar situation recently- our state (VA) refunded $110 per person ($220 for MFJ) due to the state receiving a windfall from the latest change to the federal income tax laws. If you used the standard deduction for federal- you had to use standard for state and it resulted in a higher state tax bill. Anyway, the Monopoly reference is what I thought of as well when we received the refund.

Was there any explanation as to why you received the refund?

Isn't that fun!! I just remembered I got $450 back from the oral surgeon from when my son got his wisdom teeth out in March. They said it was a refund. I had to pay b/4 the surgery, they turned it in to insurance and they paid the whole amount, hence me getting my $450 back. I'm using it to get a new floor in our little bathroom. I love getting unexpected money in the mail.
