  • WOW Airlines shuts down abruptly

Iceland-based WOW airline ceased operations suddenly today, stranding passengers on both sides of the Atlantic. While not a major carrier, what a headache for those with scheduled flights. The airline has only been around since 2011 but really helped create discount trans-Atlantic flights.

most airlines have heavy debt. and if they can't service the debt or the debt gets called somehow, it can lead to a quick shutdown.

And I'm sure that's especially true of the smaller carriers. A company like Delta or American probably has more clout in getting financing.

Especially if it reached all the way to Iceland.

It's the whipsaw effect of the inverted yield curve! Buy gold NOW and bury it in your backyard immediately.

While stranding passengers is delightfully dramatic for the news media, WOW has been struggling for months (years?). Honestly, I actually thought that they had already failed.

“So we were basically at the airport for 7 hours. they told us the reason it was delayed was that the crew was late in arriving which sounded fishy. Then they switched the story to it couldn’t fly was because of “operational restrictions” which I knew was bogus," he added.

Their reasoning is unacceptable, I feel sorry for the affected passengers.

It's hard to make a go in the airline industry. Even the major carriers struggle.
I've flown Allegiant and have wondered how they can charge me $79 to flow home from Florida especially when the plane is half full.
