  • auto and home insurance

I'm curious what most people on the board have. We just switched to Safeco insurance for our auto and home. Way cheaper but who knows what sort of customer service. We had progressive and before that commerce. And 18 months ago we had ameriprise from costco whom I loved and had for 10 years. Best and cheapest.

I'm just wondering who people use? And I realize everyone lives different places but just curious. I pay a lot because I'm a terrible driver. So I don't think it's fair to measure what I pay against average.

We've got GEICO. It was the lowest for our area/risk profile.

I switched from Allstate to Progressive a few months ago for auto. We're saving an obscene amount from that change.

Home is with a company called Cumberland. We switched to them years ago when Allstate dropped us after we filed a claim. I haven't shopped that again as it's not that expensive. Maybe we could save $100 or so a year but not enough to make a big difference.

I switched to AAA a few months ago for home and auto. Both policies are half what i was paying with Geico for the same coverage. I had Progressive for a long time before Geico... seems like they all hook you with a low rate and then hit you with rate hikes after a year or 2 so it usually pays off for me to shop around. Currently my homeowners policy is $500/year and my auto is $336/year (PER YEAR) for full coverage on an older car. I did have to sign up for AAA annual service but the $79/year is well worth the savings, plus I was able to add towing coverage for my RV just before it broke down and had to be towed 40 miles so that's paid for itself already. I didn't realize AAA had insurance policies until a friend who is a broker mentioned it but it was definitely worth the switch for me.

I pay around $750 a year on my truck and $500 a year on my house.

I have been using USAA for all my insurance since 1984. Based not his thread, I popped into a few other sites to see how my rates compare and turns out USAA is the lowest. Yeah!!!

I have NJM. Their prices can't be beat, but it's only available in NJ.

Although I'm sure we could save money but we've had California State Auto Assoc. for car's, home and umbrella policy 30 years. Like to think I'll be treated right if we ever have a significant claim. (wishful thinking!)

I have an insurance agent that we have been with for 27 years and before that my DH's family was with the same agency, so every few years they reshop my policies. Right now we are with Erie Insurance for home, auto and umbrella coverage. Before that we were with AAA but Erie is cheaper now for us.

As another poster said after so many years they jack your rates up that you have to keep switching. Luckily we've never had any claims with auto or home in all these years.
